Kerry Miller Obituary

Kerry Alan Miller, 77, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on May 11, 2025, Kerry, the beloved Spanish teacher has passed away, leaving a lasting legacy in the lives of those he taught and loved. Affectionately known as "Señor Miller", he dedicated himself to his students and his passion for teaching inspired countless students over his more than three decades of teaching.

Kerry's passions were not confined to the classroom. An avid reader, he lost himself in countless books, and found refuge in classical music, filling his days with serenity and joy. He was always ready for a new crossword puzzle challenge, and showing his sense of humor, he affectionately called his exercise bike the "torture bike," which he rode almost daily and is a testament to his determination. He never missed sending birthday and anniversary cards, always signed with a personal note and "Love, Kerry."

Those who knew Kerry will forever remember his unwavering kindness, thoughtfulness, and his ability to make everyone feel valued. His gentle spirit touched more lives than we will ever know, leaving an indelible mark on his students, colleagues, friends, and family. His family and friends cherish memories of the events he cheerfully hosted at his home. His Christmas sugar cookies and homemade wassail were always anticipated. In earlier years, he enjoyed times spent at Big Lake, where his parents had a cottage filled with laughter, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Marjorie (Wire) Miller, and his brothers, Jim Herzog and Frank (Pete) Herzog. Kerry is survived by his five nieces and nephews and their families, two sisters-in-law, his "adoptee" Gary Jesse, and countless close friends, colleagues, former students and extended family who will carry his memory in their hearts. Visitation will be Saturday, May 24, 2025, at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home- Covington Knolls, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804, from 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM, with a Funeral Service to begin at 11:30 AM. Burial to follow at Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to any of the following charities that he supported: Fort Wayne Community Foundation, Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne, or the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.

Several of us called him "Papi" and I will never forget the summer he took us all to Roller Dome to skate. Those were the days when teachers were allowed to hang out with students and drive them places. He always remembered where we lived, and frequently visited us on his bicycle rides. Personally, he always recognized my voice on the phone, and always called me Amelia. Although he never had children, I will always count myself as his child. RIP, Papi.

Senior Miller. Me and a friend used to bike ride with him. He taught us a few tunes on his piano organ...like a bridge over troubled water comes to mind first...he was like a 2nd father. My parents were divorced. So...RIP Senor

Oh Señor, I will so miss our visits and book discussions. I don´t know which of us was more excited about Outlander book 10! I had another series ready to bring over this summer. You were always so supportive of my sons even though you only had one of them in class. Still can´t believe you are gone. Hope Beethoven´s Ninth is being played for you in heaven. Love and miss you forever, Juanita (Conser) Gidley

I did my student teaching under Kerry at Lane Middle School back in the 70´s! Kerry was the greatest Spanish teacher I had at ever known. He was a really awesome Spanish teacher; always ready to help the students and give them extra help! It was an honor to have known such a kind and wonderful man and teacher! He tutored some of my students free of charge! Teachers like Kerry are rare! He gave everything to his students! Kerry´s light will forever remain within the hearts of those who truly appreciated this wonderful teacher! God Bless Kerry and may he R.I.P.

A teacher unlike any other. He taught you more than Spanish, he taught you about the passion for life and he cared about you as an individual. He loved every student in each and every class. He was smart and funny (so funny), genuine, empathic, and original! Someone I will never forget!

I taught and coached basketball at Snider High School and was fortunate to know Kerry and have him as a friend.
After teaching at Snider he tutored students free of charge to help them become proficient in Spanish.
A group of us meet for lunch once a month when able.
The world needs caring people like Kerry and I will miss my friend.
Sincerely,
Gary Crawford
