LARRY VAN PELT

LARRY VAN PELT, 76, passed away Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016, at Lutheran Life Villages at Pine Valley, in Fort Wayne. Born in Salem Center, Ind., Larry graduated from Rome City High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was an engine assembler with International Harvester for over 20 years, and also worked at Sheller Globe in Grabill. He was a proud and faithful member of the NRA. He loved bird hunting and spending time outdoors, but his passion was being with his family. Surviving are his son, Shawn (Michele) Van Pelt of Fort Wayne; daughter, Tara D. (Mark) McClurg of LaOtto, Ind.; grandsons, Russell William Van Pelt and Christopher Michael Van Pelt, both of Fort Wayne; sister, Paula Mae Hitner of Decatur, Ind.; brother, Bradley Lyn (Dianne) Van Pelt of Fort Wayne; his companion, Donna Haines of Fort Wayne; two nieces, and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth L. Van Pelt; and parents, Wendell Burdette and Pauline Van Pelt. Service is 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, at the funeral home.
