LISA OTTENWELLER Obituary

LISA LOUISE OTTENWELLER, 65, of New Haven, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. Mc Donald's lost a loyal customer for she was an avid coffee drinker and rarely seen without her McDon-ald's styrofoam cup. A legend in the Parkview Emergency Room, Lisa was a trauma nurse for 40 years who was well respected for her dedication to patient care, medical instincts, and wealth of knowledge. When she wasn't busy tending her garden, restoring furniture, or bargain shopping, you could find her lovingly doting on all of her grandchildren, near and far. She will be forever remembered for her independent spirit, incomparable work ethic, generosity, husky laugh and warm smile, and giggles brought on by the occasional quarter glass of wine. She leaves behind her partner in crime and devoted husband of 40 years, Stephen Ottenweller; she passed on her infinite wisdom to her five children, Elizabeth Ottenweller, Andrew (Alicia) Ottenweller, John Ottenweller, Joseph Ottenweller, Emily (Michael) Alberico; her love multiplied even more with her five grandchildren, Sophia Edwards, Charles Edwards, Joseph Edwards, Rafe Alberico, and Scarlett Ottenweller; also two sisters, Judith (Eugene) Hahaj and Theresa (Paul) Gilley; and brothers, Donald Kocks and Joseph (Suzanne) Kocks. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Elizabeth Kocks; brother, Thomas Kocks; and sister, Ann Kocks Stanski. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Louis Besancon Catholic Church, 15535 Lincoln Hwy E, New Haven, with calling one hour prior to service. Father Ben Muhlenkamp officiating. Calling also from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven, with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m. Burial in the church cemetery. My deepest condolences for the entire loving family of Lisa. I also am a 38 year veteran as a Trauma Nurse. I worked side by side with Lisa at Parkview Hospital for many years. We both worked many major traumas together in rooms A/B and C/D. She was always quick, calm, in control, and totally competent in skills in taking care of the patient and her deep compassion for caring for her patients was so evident. Her respect for her co-workers and physicians were of the highest level. She was a great communicator and her passion in life was evident in her daily demeanor of caring and much needed humor. She was truly an advocate for people in need. My philosophy in life is when one leaves this Earth, "have I made a difference, have I left this world a better place?" Most certainly, Lisa made a difference and left this Earth a better place! An example of life well lived. Lisa is now in peace and certainly God will reward her "for a job well done." May God's blessings grant you all the peace that surpasses all understanding.

I am a pharmaceutical rep who called on and inserviced the ER over the last 34 years. I got to know Lisa over the years and she was always kind and welcoming to me and eager for education . Her warm smile could make my day in a job. She served many patients putting them at ease in very scary times in their lives. Looks like God has called his angel back to heaven...

Wow, I am heartbroken reading this this morning. Lisa was a 2nd mom to me for many years and a co-worker in the ER. Joe and I sure did put her through some days with the trouble we got into but she never stopped caring for me. Lisa had a big heart for her family and all those she encountered. She would always tell us to "be cool". Cool we were not but the stories I could share! Lisa and Steve raised and helped create an amazing family. I miss the days I had on whitepine drive and all the times I was able to spend up at the lake. I definitely still think of her when I pick up a Mc-Ds coffee and will never forget her brushing her teeth at work every time after she ate. Lisa, you will be missed by many. My sympathy to Steve, Liz, Andy, John, Joe, Emily, and all those grandbabies she always talked about and showed off. I know she is smiling down on you all. May God comfort you all.

Lisa was an incredibly reliable nurse that would always come to you when "something doesn't look right" and she shared that skill with many more nurses, always giving great care and giving her best. She was a privilege to have on our team. Our sympathy to all of the family. Dr Gutwein

When I first met Lisa, I got to know her as a humorous woman and nurse who had a knack of knowing her patients. She had a gift for listening, and LOTS of patience in her care. My father who was a trauma physician always told me of the Highest respect he had for her.
In our younger days, many of the ER staff went on weekend hayrides, and there might be hot chocolate, coffee, or a cold beer in those hayride wagons. Best of memories.
She has already been missed for sometime in our ER. She mentored many, many patient care givers, me included in my days of patient care. God bless her soul.

I did not know Lisa personally and have never seen or talk to her but I do work at PRMC.
I will be 65 August 15. I just have been thinking while working this morning how life is so short and we need to cherish every second of life we are gifted to have with our families. If she worked in Trauma I am sure she saw so many things that others haven't. God puts certain Angels on this earth for special reasons. As I said I do not know her personally but she surely had to be a special Angel! My sympathy to the family for your great loss!!
