Lucia Kroh Obituary

Lucia Marta Kroh, 72, of Sequim, WA, passed away June 12, 2024, at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle after a sudden cardiac event. Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on Dec. 1, 1951, her parents died when she was young and she was adopted by her aunt and uncle, the late Ada and Stanley Silbey. They lived in France and Germany before she moved to the U.S. to attend Butler University. She completed nursing school at Indiana University, where she met her soulmate and husband of 43 years, the late Dr. Charles Casey Kroh Sr. They moved to Fort Wayne, Ind., where she took a break from her career to raise her four boys: Casey Jr., Eric, Evan and Alex. She returned to teach nursing at what was then St. Francis College and then joined her husband's medical practice. She obtained a master's degree in nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University and became a nurse practitioner. She was passionate about her patients, and always said her work didn't feel like a job because she loved it so much.

A lifelong reader, she could often be found with a book in her hand. She played tennis for many years and was a devoted spectator of the sport. Influenced by her husband, she also became a die-hard fan of Indiana Hoosiers basketball. She was an animal lover and adored her standard poodles: Bumper, Kagan, Kozmo, and Kody. She was fond of good food, soaks in the hot tub and correct grammar.

Above all she loved her family deeply and was never happier than when she could surround herself with all of her kids and grandkids in a beautiful place. To that end, she planned regular vacations to Glen Arbor, Mich., Sanibel Island, Fla., and later to the Michiana region and Arizona.

After her husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, she cared for him until his death in 2018.

She spent the last two years of her life in Sequim, Wash., where she moved to be near her family and spend precious time with her children and grandchildren, who knew her as their beloved Oma. She hosted family game nights and themed costume parties and was famous among her grandkids for her mac and cheese. She somehow scored coveted tickets to see Taylor Swift and took her daughters-in-law and granddaughter. She was generous, never judgmental, and was a source of endless love and support for those who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her sons, Charles Casey Kroh Jr., Eric (Rachel) Kroh, Evan (Sherry) Kroh, and Alex Kroh (Kelsey Appleton); grandchildren, Harlee Kroh, Lucas Kroh, Dexter Kroh and Charlie Kroh; and siblings, Merike (Doug) Nichols, Maya (Corky) Peters, Alex (Michele) Silbey and Stanley P Silbey II.

So sorry to hear about Lucia. We played tennis together, and she always was upbeat with her beautiful smile! I also remember her talking about taking more courses as a NP...even though she didn´t need them, she just enjoyed learning! My sympathies to the Kroh family.

My condolences to Evan and Sherry Kroh and the entire Kroh family. Lucia made my work so easy. Each time I called Lucia she would say "Yes Hannah" and what makes me sad is that her calm voice still ringers in my ears. Her beautiful smile lightened each one of us. Rest Easy. See you in the morning Lucia.

I once learned a life lesson from Lucia which I will always carry with me. Lucia had a beautiful home that was well decorated. One day, I witnessed her granddaughter bump into a glass figurine which fell and broke on the floor. The kiddo was extremely sad and apologetic, but Lucia just hugged her and said it was okay, they were "just things." She always put her family and others feelings first, and it was so inspirational. She truly was a beautiful person inside and out.

My condolences to Lucia's family. Her love for her sons, her daughter in laws and grandchildren was apparent in conversations she and I would have as colleagues at Lutheran Medical Group. She was a knowledgeable and efficient Nurse Practitioner and her roles as a wife and caregiver were ones she undertook with passion.
I am so pleased to learn that Lucia was able to spend her life after retirement in Washington with her family. She often spoke of that goal.
