MARIUS "KAPI" SAGNON

MARIUS "KAPI" SAGNON, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2021, surrounded by love, with peace and dignity. He was born in Burkina Faso, West Africa and later made Fort Wayne his home. He was a teacher who touched and impacted the lives of students on both continents. His infectious smile, unforgettable laugh and genuine kindness, compassion and love for all people are lessons he practiced and shared far beyond the walls of his classroom. Marius was the 2019 Southwest Allen County "Teacher of the Year". He believed that teaching was a gift from God. He was an uncle, "ton ton", brother, cousin, best friend and beloved family member to everyone, a stranger to none. He lived his life believing in each and every person he knew. His "I believe in you" attitude gave countless people the encouragement to overcome whatever obstacle they encountered and achieve any goal envisioned. He is survived by fianc‚, Kate Bauman; and countless family and friends. Marius was the middle child of 26 brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his father, Perthiou Sagnon; and mother, Mariam Traor‚. Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Monday, April 26, 2021, at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10700 Aboite Center Road, with calling one hour prior. The family requests you "let your joy rise to the surface" and wear your brightest outfits and his signature bowtie and celebrate in full color what was Marius's extraordinary life. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2021, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, with a Rosary service starting at 3:30 p.m. Masks and social distancing will be required at both locations. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been set up in his name.
