MERTIE SCHLAUDROFF Obituary

MERTIE MARIE PARKER SCHLAUDROFF, 87, of Fort Wayne, died, Sunday, April 1, 2012. Born Feb. 1, 1925, in rural Marion County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late George and Pearl Parker. She was the second oldest of four children. Her father passed away when she was six, and all of the children learned to work hard at a very young age. After graduating from high school, she worked her way through college, graduating in 1947 from Ohio Northern University. She then moved to Fort Wayne to begin teaching school. In 1949, she married John Wm Taylor, Jr. From that union, they had three sons; Donald (Gigo), Ronald (Cindy) and John III (Peggi) Taylor, who all survive. Unfortunately, that union ended. In 1979, she married Paul G. Schlaudroff who passed away in 2001. Her favorite phrase while in the hospital and rehab was "I'll be right back." Even her doctors and lawyer use it. So with that thought in mind, "I'll be right back." She was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church and the Church Book Group and the Red Hat Society. She was also active at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Sarina, Olivia, Abby, Nick and Jeff; sister, Betty Lou Graven; and brother, Thomas L. (Willene) Parker. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Doris Ellen Chambers. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2012 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 2131 Getz Road, Fort Wayne, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne. Burial in Larue Cemetery, Larue, Ohio. Preferred memorials to Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio or St. Michael's Lutheran Church.

Such a dear, sweet lady. She always lit up the room with her contagious smile. She was so much fun and a gracious hostess. Her Red Hat sisters will miss her. My prayers go out to her family. May the Lord's Presence comfort you during this time of sadness. Joyce Briner
