i consider it an honor to have helped share in his care at the hospital. I remember how kind Marilyn and Mike were each day I saw them there. He liked to show the staff a picture of Jaylin and himself which he had on his bedside table. God bless you and Marilyn.

Coach Egts was a great football coach and an even more amazing person. His dedication to his family, faith, players and friends was unmatched. The values that he taught both on and off the football field have helped so many of us become better people. Coach Mike Egts was a great man and will be missed dearly. The football Class of 1992 was the last group to be fortunate enough to experience Freshman Head Coach Mike Egts. I'll never forget humbly gathering around the goal post at halftime of the Harding game. We were down 20-0. Coach Egts' halftime speech was as follows (paraphrasing of course): "I'm gonna go over to daggum daggum daggum Scotts, get a daggum daggum daggum paper bag, and put it over my daggum head!!!!!". That was it. We went on to lose by yet another 20 points in a game that also featured the famous Coach Egts Timeout. He called a timeout, came out on the field, and made us all do up downs! No joke! We couldn't believe it! "Get em choppin! he yelled ,with what was left of his voice, "just get em choppin!!".
There are so many memories, sayings, and lessons that stick with us all today, and we cherish them. Coach Egts was a man of great passion. He was passionate about everything that he committed to, namely Faith, Family and Football. His absence will be undeniable and sad, but the legacy that this amazing man leaves behind is eternal. It lives in all of us that knew him so well and it lives on Luers Field, from goal line to goal line and all the way to the nickle seats. God Bless you dear Coach and Uncle.

I am sorry to read of Mike's passing. My son passed away 4 years ago and I let him know, as they were friends, and "rivals" in football. I received a lovely card and note from Mike. We are saddened to hear of Mike's passing. The last time we saw him, he was bravely battling one day at a time. One of Mike's favorite exclamations was "touch my heart". When Mike walked into a room, the energy rose to the level of his boundless enthusiasm. In later years we talked about the wild escapades of our youth and of the joys of coaching. Mike is at the very top of the list of the good guys. He continues to touch my heart.

We have been thinking of you and praying the Lord will provide you and your family with the strength and faith of knowing that Mike is with the Lord and we will all see him again. Living away these many years, we didn't get the opportunity to know Mike, but reading the many condolences and memories in the Guest book, you have been truly blessed as his partner in life over the years. My thoughts are with your family. I'm grateful to have had Coach Egts as an influence in high school. I also chuckle every time I think about seeing him come into Casa on Fairfield to pick up thier carry-out when I was working. At the time, he was just one of my high school coaches, but I noticed he treated everyone there with so much respect and everyone loved him. He couldn't walk from the front door to the carry out stand with out being stopped for several conversations. You could hear his animated voice anywhere in the building!!! By the time I graduated, he was my favorite customer and one of my favorite coaches. Our family will miss him...

Marilyn and family: Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Words cannot describe the impact Coach Egts had on me and many others. Coach taught me to push myself, expect excellence, and treat everyone with respect. I have had the opportunity to participate in many leadership classes and seminars and they all pale in comparison to the things I learned from coach. I can still feel his arm around my shoulder and him talking to me. He gave me my nickname that sticks to this day. When I think of coach, I only think of happiness. All the best. Dave and family.
Mike was my first Liitte League teammate on Essex Wire. We were both nine at the time and enjoyed being teammates. He sold the house the house I grew up for our mom and I always appreciated it. I last saw Mike our mom's funeral visitation. He told my sisters how mom would pick us up from practice and take him home. I never thought how much that meant to Mike and how nice it was for him to offer those kind words. My condolences to the Egts family. Mike my you Rest In Peace.

Mike was the most intense football player I have ever been around. Despite being a football star, he treated all his teammates as brothers. He had a great heart for Bishop Luers and truly is its greatest ambassador. If you entered a room with Mike there, he would holler out your name. I look forward to meeting him on the other side. Many condolences and prayers to Mike's family at this difficult time. I have known Mike for over 25 years, first I handled his account at Fort Wayne Newspapers, and when I moved on to Subway I had the pleasure of still getting to see him often. I returned to Fort Wayne Newspapers 4 years ago, so if it is any comfort, I was the one that did his obituary yesterday, not a stranger. He was a true gentleman, always friendly and warm. He will be greatly missed. May the Angels lead him into paradise.

Our condolences, thoughts and prayers to Marilyn and the entire Egts family. Mike was exceptional on and off the football field. I was blessed to be his football coach and we were blessed to be his friend. Mike Egts was the consummate P.H.D.+Guts champion. Fortunately we were able to visit with Mike in November. We shared lots of laughs with Mike, Dave and Mike Handlin.
We are so sorry that we are 1000 miles away and unable to attend

I was blessed in being cousins to Mike. I had the pleasure of watching him coach many times. Mostly on the visiting side and losing to him all the time. I have many memories of Coach. I have never had to work so hard for any coach in my life. He treated each of his linemen with respect and dignity. He pushed us harder than we ever thought we could handle and made sure the we all were working for the same goal. To this day I hear that whistle blow in my head, Tweety. I hear phrases such as Yea Yea Yea and all the way to the Goal Line. I respected him even when he was in my face, forcing me to be better than I was at that time. I have fond memories of sitting at the dinner table with Coach and some of the other lineman, telling stories and eating some lasagna, talking about what we needed to do this season. Coach wrote a fantastic letter of recommendation for me for college that I still have to this day. He will be missed.

Saying goodbye to an old friend. I played football with Mike at Luers. We all loved and respected Mike. He was without a doubt the best nose guard around in our day. One of the fastest guys off the line, our leading tackler. He lived in the opposing team's backfield. We all became better players because of Mike.
