MONTE LYNN NICHOLLS, 73, of Harlan, Ind., passed away Monday, Oct. 11, 2021, at Parkview Hospital - Randallia, Fort Wayne, Ind. Born Nov. 25, 1947, in Fort Wayne, Ind., Monte was the son of the late Wayne D. Nicholls and Garcile (Smith) McDowell. Monte was a 1965 graduate of Hicksville High School, and then enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He married Kalene F. Baker on Oct. 11, 1975, at Pleasant Lake, Ind., and she survives. Monte worked as a Maintenance Mechanic at BF Goodrich for over 31 years, retiring in 2009. He was a member of the Hicksville Eagles Aerie 2556. In his free time, Monte enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, bowling, and spending time with his family. Monte is survived by his wife, Kalene, of Harlan, Ind.; three children, Kristina Nuechterlein of Fort Wayne, Ind., Monte L. (Shari) Nicholls, II of Noblesville, Ind., and Adam W. (Charlotte) Nicholls of Fort Wayne, Ind.; five grandchildren, Ashley Fuelling, Xavier Nicholls, Evan Nicholls, Laney Nicholls and Winston Nicholls; and one great-granddaughter, Trinity Fuelling. Monte was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Dakota Nuechterlein and Elliott Nicholls. Graveside service is 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at Riverview Cemetery, Newville, Ind. Celebrant Patricia Peter officiating. Arrangements were under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 N. Main St., Hicksville OH 43526). In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to Parkview Home Health & Hospice, or to www.CDHI.org.
