We all know Uncle Ray & his brother Ken (my dad) loved IU basketball, but going way back they both loved Ossian High School basketball there alma mater. Uncle Ray has gone to a better place now. He won't have to suffer anymore.

My cousin Roberta's husband Ray was one of those very special persons--a loving family man who was an intelligent, hard worker, and who lived a life as a wonderful example of the best among us. Part of his charm when Mom and I visited the family over the years was the popcorn party he held in the evenings, and the joy he took from the wonderful apple orchard he created in his post-teaching years. I admired his attention to nutrition in his life, and later learned much more about that from his example. I will always be grateful for his kindness through letters to my brother Ron, even as Ray's health was slipping. I will miss knowing that Ray is part of this world we shared, but as Roberta, Carla, Branch, Mariann, Jay & Randy and their families all know, Ray is now with our Heavenly Father with no more suffering. We were all blessed to have had him in our lives. May God give you family members comfort and strength, as the days pass and your memories become warm and sustaining.

I remember Uncle Ray as the guy who could do anything. As a kid during the summer months we would follow him around and watch with fascination as he built his apple building, planted huge vegetable gardens, evergreens, and even dug a pond. All the while he would make up short songs about whoever was around him. Probably one of the more dangerous yet fun things he let me do was ride barefoot on the back of a disc as he was working the field behind the orchard. I remember him turning around on his tractor seat from time to time and just laugh. He will be missed.

Carla and Bill, so very sorry to hear of your loss. May God comfort you Carla in the loss of your dad as he has comforted us in the loss of our fathers. We will say a prayer of strength and comfort for your whole family - we are thinking of you all.

All those apples! I will forever remember the piles of apples, the apple presses, and hundreds of gallon jugs, what a calming memory for me. Our family's prayers are with you all.

Hey Uncle Ray - I didn't get to tell you this, but since moving back to Indiana this past October, I'm going to plant a new vineyard and orchard this spring - about 200 vines and a dozen or so fruit trees, some brambles and stone fruit too. I'll think of you when I dig the first hole and when I see the apple blossoms bloom. Your nephew, Brad.

I loved Uncle Ray. He never overlooked me and always said a kind word to me. He will be missed. One of the many nieces,

On behalf of my wife, Lynn, and my family, I wish to convey my sympathies to the Springer family. When I was a young man I was more familiar with Mr. Springer as the father of my friend and classmate, MaryAnn. I have fond memories of the Springer's generosity and the wonderful apple orchard. May the peace of the Lord sustain this family through the difficult days ahead.

I couldn't have asked for a more loving, kinder father-in-law. The Good Lord truly blessed me with Ray Springer and my life was truly richer having known him. I'll always remember him for being such a fine example of a grandfather to my sons, Clint and Travis, and for supporting them and cheering for them and offering a shoulder to lean on. Even as his body wasted away, he remained strong in the Spirit of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Miss the wonderful smell of Ray popping popcorn in a skillet on cold winter nights. Nobody could resist that popcorn.
May all the 1,000s of students who Ray coached and taught as an elemenary school remember Ray fondly now that he has left us to join our Heavenly Father.
Love Bill Scott

I have a lot of fond memories of Uncle Ray. Having grown up next door, some of my earliest memories are of watching Ray driving his tractor, working the cider press and working in the orchard. Fascinating stuff to a young boy. He was a great man & a great Uncle. You have my deepest sympathies.
Sincerely,
