Richard Mathieson Obituary

Richard Watson Mathieson, 87, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024, in Cookeville, Tennessee. He was born on February 25, 1937, in Homer City, Pennsylvania to the late Robert M. and Beatrice Lloyd Mathieson. Richard's life was a testament to his thoughtful nature and his unwavering commitment to his family and friends.

Richard, a proud graduate of Laura Lamar High School, went on to earn a Bachelor's degree from Bethany College in West Virginia. He retired as the Chief Financial Officer at Pullman-Peabody. He proudly served his country, as he served in the U.S. Navy.

A man of faith, Richard was a member of the Presbyterian church, where he found strength and faith.

He was an avid golfer. He was also skilled at whittling wood, creating intricate pieces that reflected his love for nature and wildlife. Above all, Richard cherished his family.

He is survived by his two sons, Richard C. Mathieson and his wife Shawntelle, and Christian D. Mathieson, all of Cookeville. His legacy continues through his granddaughters, Ashlynn M. and Kaitlyn E. Mathieson, and his great-granddaughter, Brianna Mathieson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delane Joyce Mathieson; son, Charles Robert Mathieson; brother, Robert Lloyd Mathieson; and a sister, Carol J. Honess.

As we bid farewell to Richard Watson Mathieson, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey marked by love, service, and an unwavering commitment to the greater good. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Richard's story does not end with his passing but continues through the countless lives he touched with his gentle spirit and benevolent heart. Mr. Mathieson's wishes for cremation are being honored, and he will be buried at a later date.

I remember singing with him and listening to songs by Glen Miller, Elvis Presley, James Dean. When it was Christmas we would sing Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. That was a great memory.
