Robert Smith Obituary

Robert Lane "Bob" Smith, 76, of Fort Wayne, passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 15, 2024, Bob was born on January 15, 1948. He married the absolute love of his life, Lynne Beth Figel, on June 8, 1968. Bob and Lynne met and started dating in the seventh grade. They both graduated from North Side High School, where Bob was an amazing athlete. He held many track and field records at North Side and was a football stand-out. He was also a fierce competitor in tennis, ping-pong, bocce ball, badminton, croquet, and anything and everything else, especially against family and friends. Bob was also popularly known as a professional amateur meteorologist. He would provide requested and unsolicited weather reports on the daily. If you were lucky enough to know Bob, you knew that he was always on the move. You could hear him whistling cheerfully a mile away. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word for everyone he would pass, and yes, he would pass you because he was always moving unbelievably fast, never stopping. This served him well in life and during his long career at the Allen County Prosecutor's Office. Bob also loved to be outside. He enjoyed fishing, shooting at the range, riding his bike, sitting in the sun, and watching thunderstorms roll in from his garage perch. These qualities and talents and facts are but a glimpse of this man. Family was everything to Bob. He loved being in the company of his loved ones more than anything, and he loved them well. No one ever left his presence without a hug and a spoken, "I love you". Bob was a devoted and loving husband, father, and paw-paw. He is survived by his wife, Lynne Smith (Flossy Kate), his daughters, Robyn (Jay) Niedzwiecki, Allyson (David) Cooper, Courtney (Brett) Zachary, and Tannyn (Taylor) Howard, and his grandchildren Wren, Rook, Braelyn, Camden, Easton, and Finn. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughters, Kimberly and Kristyn. There will not be any services held. Please dedicate any donations to the American Heart Association.

Dear Lynne, just found out of Bob's passing . Deb and I have such good memories of our friendship with you two. I don't know why but I have been thinking a lot of Bob and his funny nature and energy . I still remember when International Harvester was leaving Fort Wayne and I took a typing job and had to deal with Bob coming by and yell Suzy Suzy Suzy at me. I also remember your laughter when Bob and I would do something stupid together. Bob, your memory will be always be with us.

Lynn
I met both you and Bob in 9th grade. You were both welcoming to this transfer. At our 50th Bob was still ready to defend my honor. He was a good man, witty, smart and caring. Big hug.
