Roger Hupe Obituary

Roger Lee Hupe, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away on July 16, 2024, Roger Hupe - the man, the myth, the legend - was born in Versailles, Ohio, to Evelyn (Martin) and Delmar Hupe. He grew up in West Unity and was a Theta Chi at Adrian College. After graduating in 1970, he had a brief career in retail before finding his professional home in insurance.

He started Hupe Insurance Services in 1981, with three small children at home and a tireless work ethic. While he would shrug off the agency's success - "Even a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while." - everyone else knew better. It was him-taking every call, memorizing the particulars and caring about people so much. Everything is personal when it's your name on the sign.

He elevated profanity to an artform and could recite limericks and recall "Rogerisms" for every circumstance. He had jokes in reserve and lived for laughter. He loved fiercely and with every beat of his biologically flawed but powerful heart.

For Roger, nothing manmade or imagined could compare to his pride and affection for his family. It poured out of him. This was evident in his fight to stay with them until his body finally surrendered. As a flash of lightning streaked across the black sky, just after 2 a.m. on Tuesday morning, with his wife and children's hands on him, Roger shed his towering frame to go crack up the angels. No doubt, he arrived to a warm reception of family, friends and animals, welcoming him to a peaceful place.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Eugene. He is survived by his brothers, Dennis (Judy) Hupe and Richard (Christine) Hupe, and sister, Sandra Runkel. His spirit lives on in his children, Matt (Amy) Hupe, Kirsten (Louie) Saldivar, Courtney (Hank) Leach and Diana Hunley, and 15 grandchildren, who adored their Papa. He leaves behind the other half of his heart-his wife and purpose of 52 years, Marilyn. May we all have a love so comparable to air.

For the man who said, "The only bad press is an obituary," it devastates us to see this in print. You were larger than life, Dad. The tender giant with an arsenal of one-liners. Our Clark Griswald. We'll miss your bear hugs, your griping and your guidance. Take your rest, big guy, in your Father's house, with many mansions. The work is done.

Per his wishes, a party will be held in Roger's honor at a later date.

If you ever had the pleasure to work for the Hupe´s you were not an employee, you were family. I´ve known and loved this amazing group since the late 80´s when they took a chance on me.
Roger and Marilyn...one of Gods finest examples of what marriage should look like. The commitment to each other, their family and clients is unmatched.
I sure will miss those big bear hugs!

Some memories that we shared is when he took me and Brielle in his corvette, And then we came back and talked a lot, And when we got my grandma a puppy, when she came back papa loved her and the puppy wouldn't stop eating his shoe laces, Papa I promise that we will stay with grammy and will stay with her everyday and I'm going to keep that promise, Love you

My grandpa was one of my best friends, if I needed advice or answers he was the right person to go to. He would always make me laugh and smile, He always saw us as the most beautiful girls in the world. He would always cheer us on when we needed it the most. He was always confident, loving, and caring for us.
And I was so grateful we got to see him whenever we wanted to, And he will be dearly missed day by day. Papa I hope you are happy in heaven, You were the best grandpa that I could ever imagine. Rest well, I loved you deeply.

Our condolences go out to the Hupe family. My wife and I had the privilege of traveling with Roger and Marilyn on the Indiana Farmers company trip to Italy. Despite some travel complications, Roger's sense of humor and good nature made the trip a memorable experience. I'll be praying for God's comfort and peace for you all as you go through this difficult time.

My condolences and prayers to the Hupe family. Was introduced to Roger many years ago thru St. Joe Little League. His business was a devoted sponsor for years, Marilyn volunteered on many committees, and Matt enjoyed his time as a great baseball player. Also, appreciated Hupe Insurance Services on providing my personal insurance needs. This is a difficult time for the whole family as Roger was a wonderful person and I extend my deepest sympathies to all. I am so very thankful for the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed.

I will never forget the way Roger treated us after my husband died. He made, what was for myself and my young children, a very difficult time even more so.

My grandpa was the best grandpa anyone could ever ask for. There was no limits to what he would have done for us. He always made sure to know how loved we were, and how beautiful we were in his eyes. I will carry that with me for the rest of my life. I know he was so proud of all of us and never failed to make sure we knew that. When I try to think of a word to describe my grandpa, I can´t think of a singular word that would describe him because there are so many. He was kind, loving, hardworking, funny, and selfless, he did everything he could to provide for all of us and he never failed. I always knew who to go for a laugh or for advice or just if I needed someone to talk to. We were all so blessed to ave had him in our lives. He was such a role model to me growing up and I always admired his hard work and his legacy. There is an endless list of people know knew and cared about my grandpa. He was so loved and such a fun person to be around. His laugh was always contagious and his smile could light up a room.

You will be deeply missed papa but we will see you in all the beautiful things and all around the farm. We will have a celebration to honor you and all that you did for us. You have made such an impact on so many lives including mine. We know you will be watching over us and still be here with us even if we can´t see you. Rest easy papa. We love you so much.

There is hardly a time where my papa didn´t make me laugh or smile . He was the most kind caring and just all around wonderful person. He was so selfless and always cracking his jokes. He always made sure we knew how much he loved us . Whether it was him getting up early to get us donuts when we had a cousin sleepover, or teaching me to drive the Tractor because I thought it was so so cool . Even when he got sick he still without fail made me smile . He made sure he told his granddaughters they were pretty and that he Was proud of us. My papa was one of my best friends, the best husband , and the best dad . Rest well papa . I love you forever.
