Ruth Gregory Obituary

Ruth B. Gregory, 84, of Fort Wayne, passed away on November 3, 2024, after a long battle with dementia. Born on November 27, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was the first of seven children of the late Edward and Loretta (Longmore) Brennan. A deeply faithful woman, Ruth was entirely devoted to her family. She married William Gregory on June 2, 1962, in Pittsburgh, and together they celebrated 62 years of marriage earlier this year. Ruth and Bill had five sons, and she was immensely proud of each of them, supporting them in all their endeavors and encouraging them to serve others and pursue academic success. Ruth had a lifelong passion for education and travel. Over the years, she lived in seven states and two countries. While living in Erie, PA, Ruth earned her bachelor's degree in English from Gannon University. She also found joy in the arts and was honored to serve as a docent at both the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Charleston (West Virginia) Art Museum. Ruth was an active member of various women's clubs, book clubs, and choirs, where her enthusiasm for life and learning shone brightly.

Known for her joyful disposition and infectious laugh, Ruth particularly cherished large family gatherings. Her loved ones fondly remember her as a devoted dog lover, having cared for and adored several dogs throughout her life, including Missy, Daisy, Buddy, and Dixie. Ruth is survived by her husband of 62 years, William "Bill" Gregory; her children, Chris (Maria Urita) Gregory, Sean Gregory, Patrick (Julie) Gregory, Timothy Gregory, and Terrence Gregory; her grandchildren, Aisling, Mary, Anne, Joseph, John, Teressa, Sophie, Daniel, Leah, David, Catherine, Emma, Eileen, Claire, Elizabeth, Abigail, and Grace; her great-grandchildren, Olivia, Nora, Axel, Isaac, and Ella; and her siblings, Lois (Edward "Buzz") Reich, Robert (Mary Kay) Brennan, Eileen (Donald) Ihrig, and Sharon Brennan. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Edward and Kathryn. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at The Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, 1105 Calhoun St., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior to the service. There will also be a visitation on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne. Ruth, your smile was beautiful and your laugh was infectious.

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of His hand
Go Raibh Suaimhneas Siorai Air, Ruth
