Stephen Lowden Obituary

Stephen Edward Lowden, 73, of Ft. Wayne, passed away on August 18, 2023. Steve's beloved family members were with him as he peacefully went to his Heavenly home on his birthday. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene R. Lowden 96, in 2017. He leaves behind many loved ones, including his loving wife of 33 years, Barbara (Bobbie) Lowden, his mother Anna May (Lahrman) Lowden 94, sons, Stephen Eugene Lowden of Chicago, John E. (Sherry) Mattingly Jr. of Cincinnati, daughters, Elizabeth (Gary) Toth and Laura (Ben) Stevens both of Ft. Wayne. He is also survived by his brother, Robert (Dorene) Lowden and his sister, Sharon (David) White. Steve also had three loving nieces and seven grand-children who thought "Papa" was the "greatest." Steve was born August 18, 1950 in New Haven, IN. He was very athletic participating in all sports in high school and college. Steve began his teaching career of 43 years in Northern Wells Community Schools. The majority of his years were spent teaching Algebra at Norwell Middle School. He touched the lives of thousands and thousands of students who loved "Mr. Lowden". He also coached football at the middle school teaching the boys that "winning" was not always the most important thing. Steve was the kind of man who helped anyone who asked. He was indeed a "Handy Man". He could build anything and fix everything! Steve's favorite pastime was cultivating his garden and tending to his beautiful flowers that adorned his backyard. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Heaven welcomed a great man upon his passing. Steve (Mr. Lowden) will be missed.

Mr Lowden was an inspiration to my son Kai Goetz. He believed in Kai and called us in for a conference. We thought this would be about Kai goofing off... how wrong we were! He called us in to tell us that Kai was amazing in math.. that he just "got it" and that he was one of the few students of many that just "got it". Also, he attended Kais graduation open house and was Kai´s biggest surprise! He addressed his card
"To my friend Kai". What a genuinely kind man. Many will miss him!

Hi Bobbie, Laurie and I are saddened by Steve´s passing. Steve and I grew up across the "crick" from each other in New Haven. We went to grade school together. My favorite recent memory of Steve was the time we spent at our Bishop Luers High School reunion 5 years ago. We had a competition to see who could name more of our 8th grade classmates. He will be sorely missed. Prayers to you and your family during this hard time.

I remember having Mr. Lowden in middle school. I never liked math class. It was always my worst subject. However, Mr. Lowden helped me enjoy it and he was a wonderful teacher. I will be praying for his family during this difficult time!
