Elizabeth Ann Rhuda

1933 - 2021

NEWMARKET - Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Rhuda, 87, of Newmarket, N.H., passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 26, 2021, surrounded by loved ones after a difficult battle following a Covid-19 diagnosis. Betty was born on November 17, 1933 to Leonard and Marjorie Werner in Lynn, Mass. Growing up in Nahant, Mass., she spent many years learning to sail. She enjoyed many adventures on the water with her family.

After graduating from Lynn English High School, class of 1951, she married her high school sweetheart Richard Rhuda Sr. In her early years of marriage, she was very active in Eastern Star and the Lynn YMCA as a swim coach. She then became a full time Mother and she and Richard raised five children together. After 25 years of marriage to Richard they went their separate ways.

During that time, she met her lifetime partner Alex Shaw. They were inseparable for over 40 years. They spent summers down on Cape Cod in Chatham, Mass., and winters between Dover, N.H. and Sarasota, Fla. They frequently traveled abroad visiting places like Germany, Spain, Austria, Scotland and even went to England and saw the queen. Later on in life she loved the company of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, twin brother Miffey and brother James. She is survived by her five children, Deborah and her husband Larry Favreau of Harpswell, Maine, Richard and his wife Jean Rhuda of Nashua, N.H., Diane and her husband Peter Munro of Ossipee, N.H., Julie Rhuda of Newmarket, N.H., Kimberly and her husband Philip Jones of Hardeeville, S.C.; as well as 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her lifelong partner Alex Shaw.

SERVICES: At the family's request, a private celebration will take place in the spring. We give a special thanks to the staff at The Pines of Newmarket for all their loving care.
