Mary Boucher Obituary

Newport ; Mrs. Mary Beth (Floodquist) Boucher, age 62, of Elm Street passed away peacefully at her home with family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Boucher was born July 15, 1946, in Ossining, N.Y., to the late Arthur Gustav and Helen "Vera" (Heron) Floodquist. She attended elementary and high school in Windsor Locks, Conn., and Hartford College of Hartford, Conn. She worked in human resources at Dexter Corporation, Colt Firearms and St. Francis Hospital of Hartford, Conn. Mrs. Boucher became the first director of personnel at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, Mass., holding that position from 1972 to 1982. She then moved to Kensington and worked for the Turning Point Agency of Newburyport, Mass., for Social Services in various positions. Her skill at finding good people to fill tough jobs is well known in the region. In 2001 Mrs. Boucher moved to Newport, establishing the Arbor Brook Bed & Breakfast with her husband, Neal, which they have been operating until the present.

Mary Beth was a member of the Newport Service Organization and the Sunapee Region Bed & Breakfast Association. She resided in Charlestown, Mass., for two years; Ring's Island Salisbury, Mass., two years; Newburyport, Mass., nine years; Kensington, 12 years; and Newport for the last eight years. Mary Beth enjoyed outdoor activities, interior decorating, gardening, volunteering, and entertaining at her B&B. She especially enjoyed time spent at the beach at Sandy Point Plum Island in Newburyport, Mass.

Mary Beth's B&B held a large clientele of dedicated visitors including many local businesses and patrons worldwide. She was a most gracious host who went to great lengths to provide a comfortable, warm, and loving retreat for her guests. She enjoyed a wide circle of family and friends, many of whom were able to visit recently. She was a true Christian and a member of the St. Patrick's Church in Newport. Mary Beth assisted many with disabilities in her work, fostering a girl in Uganda for many years and opening her home to a student during the Bosnian Conflict. Her bright smile and kind heart will be missed greatly by all.

Mary Beth leaves her husband of 32 married years, Neal M. Boucher of Newport; her son, Adam N. Boucher; her sister, Sally and husband Charles Guignon of Tampa, Fla.; her brother, James A. and wife Laurie Floodquist of Dover Point, Dover; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in New York, connecticutt, Nevada, Florida and Vermont.

Mary Beth was one of the kindest persons I have even known. She brought her gentle soul and innate understanding of human nature to every personal & professional encounter. She, Neal and Adam made a most wholesome and loving family. Our circle of friends is surely diminished by her death. Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to the family.
