Patti Bickford Obituary

WELLS, Maine - Patti Nalani Medeiros Bickford, 69, of Wells Maine died peacefully in her home after a period of failing health on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020.

Patti was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She loved her beautiful homeland and enjoyed sharing her culture with others. She lived there until she met her husband, James L. Bickford, while he was stationed in Pearl Harbor. Patti and Jim married on June 3, 1970. Together they had two children, Anne Nalani and Thomas Kimo Bickford. In 1979, they moved to Wells, Maine where they raised their children.

Patti worked for 30 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. She held several positions in her time at the shipyard and was one of the first women to go on sea trials on the Kamehameha submarine. She retired from the shipyard in 2010 as a Project Coordinator. In 2015 she started working at Hannafords in North Berwick, Maine. Patti truly loved her coworkers and interacting with the people who came through her checkout line.

Affectionately known as "Tutu," she was a grandmother like no other. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Patti was predeceased by her son, Thomas K. Bickford and by her husband James L. Bickford. Patti is now watching over (or haunting depending on her mood) her daughter Anne Bickford and her wife Maureen Steer of Milton, N.H., her granddaughter Sylvia of Wells, Maine, her sisters Maureen Cruze and Georgia Cruz, her brothers Alex Medeiros and George Medeiros Jr., her daughter in-law Audra, her grandsons Devin, Trevor and Travis of Wells and Stephen and Matthew of Milton as well as many nieces and nephews.

We are so grateful for the hospice services that Cornerstone VNA provided so that Patti could be comfortable and in her own home. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Patti's name so that others may get the same compassionate care in the comfort of their own home.

SERVICES: A private memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021. If you would like to virtually attend the memorial service, please use the Zoom link in the text at the bottom of Patti's obituary page at https://www.bibberfuneral.com/memorials/patti-bickford/4478655/index.php.

We are so sorry to hear of Patti’s passing. I worked with Patti and Jim at the shipyard and did a few sea trials with her. She was a very dedicated employee and fun to be around. She will be in our thoughts and prayer.

Patti was such a pleasure to work with. She and I started at the North Berwick Hannaford the day they opened. She kept everyone in line. The customers loved her and when she went on LOA they kept asking how she was doing. Patti I’ll miss playing Word With Friends with you. May you RIP my friend
