Paul Corey Sr.
SOMERSWORTH — Paul Lewis Corey Sr., 67, of 310 Tri-City Road, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at The Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dover, after a period of declining health.

Paul was born in Hodgdon, Maine, on Feb. 5, 1942, and was the son of Donald and Juanita (Foster) Corey. He was raised in Hodgdon and was a graduate of Houlton Maine High School.

Paul and his wife, Margaret, had lived in Somersworth for the past nine years, coming from Gonic. Mr. Corey had worked for a time with Spaulding Fiber but had recently retired from Pratt-Whitney in North Berwick, Maine, as a C&C lathe operator after 17 years of service with the company.

Paul enjoyed crossword puzzles, enjoyed sports and had a knack for cooking which he loved to do. He loved his cat, Stuart. But most of all he will be missed by his children and grandchildren, which meant the world to him.

Family members include his wife of 43 years, Margaret "Peggy" (Fitzpatrick) Corey of Somersworth; his sons, Paul Corey Jr. and his wife, Tina, both of Cotton Town, Tenn., and Christopher Corey and his wife, Andrea, both of Rochester. He leaves his daughters, Paulette Brown and her husband, Joseph, both of Somersworth, Ellen Norwood and her husband, Timothy, both of Whitehouse, Tenn., and Heidi Warner and her husband, Vernon, both of Eliot, Maine.

Paul leaves his two brothers, Gary Corey of Houlton, Maine, and Peter Corey of Hodgdon, Maine, and a sister, Sharon Crowder of Houlton, Maine. Other family members include his six grandchildren, Marissa, Jennifer, Kaitlyn, Kasey, Taylor and Lexi; his two stepgrandchildren, Danielle and Randee. He also leaves several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral services will be held in Bernier Gelinas Funeral Home, 49 South St., Somersworth, on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 4 p.m.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Somersworth Food Pantry at 176 W. High Street, Somersworth, NH 03878.

To the Corey family,
Although I have not seen many of you in several years I do remember all the fun times we used to have in good old Gonic. I saw the picture you had of Paul SR. with his obituary and he looks exactly like I remembered him. My deepest sympathy to the entire family. May all your memories help you through this difficult time.

Thoughts and prayers are with you

Mrs. Corey - I was so sad to hear of Mr. Coreys passing. I didn't realize he had been so sick. I remember growing up in Gonic and Mr. Corey always being so funny and kind. He always had a funny joke or a great story to tell. If he was outside when we rode our bikes by the house, he would always wave and say hello. He was a good man.

You, Mr. Corey, Paulette, Paul, Ellen, Heidi and Christopher are in my thoughts and prayers.

Rest in Peace Mr. C

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I regret not making more of an effort to contact Paul recently. Peggy, we've only 'met' on FB--I kept watching to see if Paul ever would get on and say hello to any of us...not realizing he was ill. My apology for not picking up the phone...a reluctance I have. I remember Paul from grade school especially. You have my condolences and understanding re the loss you must be experiencing.
