Richard Rainville Obituary
Rick graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Colby College in Maine. He was Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Delta Pi. He tutored students in various level Spanish courses. He studied at the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain. He received his Master's Degree from Cornell University.
He served as Eucharistic Minister and taught religion classes to prepare people for sacraments. He volunteered at Gerry's Food Pantry.
Rick was a beloved St. Thomas Aquinas teacher and "the light of our campus" at Ithaca College where he was greatly loved by all. Rick also taught at the Ross School in New York and Hobart & William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y. He had a great passion for teaching, a tremendous sense of humor and eagerness to go the extra mile. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds. He loved family gatherings and being with friends, especially Gary to discuss current issues.
No son was ever so deeply loved. Predeceased by his father Richard Rainville and step father Ned Rivers. He leaves many special friends (you know who you are!) a special Aunt Juanita, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a wonderful extended family.
Thank you for a lifetime of beautiful memories and love my beautiful son. I love you SO MUCH Pooh Bear! – Mom.
SERVICES - Family and friends may gather to celebrate Ricky's life at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 189 North Main St., Rochester, Saturday, November 17, 218, from 9-10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Holy Rosary Cemetery on Brock St. To sign the online guest book, please go to www.GrondinFuneralHome.com.

Rick was an irrepressible spirit. We commuted together on the city bus. I witnessed him color-coordinating his papers and inks for the day's lessons with his choice of clothing, going above and beyond the planning and energy one could reasonably expect for classroom teaching performances.
He was always building community around him. The regular commuters on the bus became part of the family, eager to hear his latest pronouncements on the ways to construct and then avoid the number thirteen.
It is a sadder world without him. The good news is that the joy he spread continues to ripple through the world. I will miss him.

I was shocked and saddened to learn of Rick's passing...we were in the same class ('83) at St. Thomas Aquinas. I remember him as a very intelligent, good guy with a great sense of humor. I pray that you will find solace in this most difficult time.

From years ago at Dr Carmolli's office to most recently at Church, it was always so nice to see Rick and enjoy his personality and his beautiful smile. I am so saddened for you, as a Mother's Love is the strongest bond. We may not know why we are called to such sorrows in this life, but we must always feel God's love, His mercy and His closeness in these hardest of times.

I worked with Ricky more than 30 years ago, at Ray's restaurant, in Rochester. Although I haven't spoken to him in years, his kind manner and wonderful sense of humor made an impact. I am so terribly sorry you have lost such a special person
