Edith Moody "Toto" Coombs McCluskey
Edith Moody "Toto" Coombs McCluskey passed away December 7, 2022, at Spanish Oaks Retreat, Memory Care and Hospice in
Savannah, Georgia. She was 96 years old.
Toto was born December 1, 1926, in Savannah to James Percy Coombs, Sr. and Edith Clara Grady Coombs. She grew up in
Apalachicola, Florida in the family home built by her great-grandfather, James Nathaniel Coombs. She graduated from Chapman High School and attended Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia.
She was married 62 years to the late William Thomas "Mac" McCluskey, Sr. They married on Christmas Eve 1947 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Apalachicola.
Toto served as a volunteer for a number of organizations, including the Florida Children's Hospital and the Ladies Auxiliary at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. She also worked in the Florida House of Representatives, Office of The Clerk during legislative sessions in the 1960's and 1970's. She enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, family genealogy and spending time with her beloved childhood friends. She outlived all but Polly, and dearly missed her pals Lucy, Smiles, Emma Laura, Doll, and Laurie.
She was preceded in death by parents, her husband, her son William Thomas "Bill" McCluskey, Jr. ; her sister, Marianne Sloan Coombs Cunningham and her brother, James Percy "Jim" Coombs, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter Claire Sloan McCluskey of Savannah and grandson William Harrison English, Sr. (Lindsay); great-grandson William Harrison English Jr. of Savannah and by grandson Benjamin McCluskey English of
Livermore, California. Also, granddaughters Tara Lynn McCluskey of Nashville, Tennessee and Kendall Marie McCluskey of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Toto is also survived by her niece Catherine Edith "Kit" Cunningham Golson of
Redwood City, California; nephew Michael Glennon Cunningham of Tallahassee; nieces Shirley McClusky Tyner of
Leesburg, Georgia; Margaret McCluskey Pile (Bob) of Pall Mall, Tennessee and nephew W.D. "Mack" McCluskey (Janet) of Lebanon, Tennessee; seven great nieces and four great nephews.
The graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 12:00 pm at Magnolia Cemetery in Apalachicola. The Rev. Martha Harris of Trinity Episcopal Church will conduct the service.
