Albert Rossi Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Albert E. Rossi announces his passing on September 4, 2024 in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 95.

Albert (Al) was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Betty Pearl Fox Rossi; his parents, John and Mary Rossi of New Bedford; and brother, Louis Rossi. He is survived by his children, Ed Rossi (Nicole Martin); Michelle Sellers (Bob Sellers); Steve Rossi (Carol Dutrow); Bridget Rossi (Joe Cohen); five grandchildren, Courtney Padgett (Scott); Michael Sellers (Madeline); Sarah Rossi; Amelia Rossi (Stephen Doyle); Jason Barger (Katie Gurley); seven great-grandchildren, Madison; Sienna; Jackson; Landon; Harrison; Lucelia; and Evan; and dear family friend, Don Pepe.

Al, a long-time resident of Frederick, Maryland, was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on May 4, 1929, and he graduated from New Bedford High School in 1948. He served in the United States Navy as a medical corpsman, and finished his tour of duty at Camp Detrick (now Fort Detrick). He continued his service to the country by working for the Army biological research program and, later, the Department of Agriculture and the University of Hawaii. Al graduated from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland in 1977 with a degree in Plant Pathology.

Al was a talented pianist, avid photographer, and enthusiastic gardener. He was always ready to engage in lively discourse on politics and world affairs, and he was prepared to do so in multiple languages. He absolutely loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Al's family would like to express their gratitude to both the staff at Discovery Village Assisted Living and the staff at VITAS Healthcare for the loving care given to our father.

A private ceremony will be held by the family later this year.

I am a Knight of Columbus in Frederick, MD. We had an Albert Rossi who served as our Inside Guard in 1959-1960. We are preparing a memorial webpage and would like to know if this is the same person?

Al was not only the great -grandfather of my Padgett grandchildren, but he was a dear friend of mine.
I grew to love Al while frequently visiting him at Discovery Village over the past year and a half. We talked often about our family and laughed together because his friends at Discovery had a difficult time trying to understand our relationship. (My son Scott is married to Al's granddaughter Courtney.)
I was honored to know and love Al during the past 14 years, but especially when he moved to DV.
I know he is in Heaven with his loving wife Betty and they both are in God's presence.
My condolences to the families of Ed, Michelle, Steve, and Bridget are from my heart and I pray for the Holy Spirit to bring comfort to them.
Lovingly, Kathy Padgett

I knew both Al and Betty through my dad Bill Hiltner, who also lived in Frederick. They shared such a wonderful long friendship.....talking about cameras, jokes, eating lunch every Thursday at Mt Gate. My heart and love go out to your family. Thanks to Al and Betty for being such a special part of my dad´s life.
