In Loving Memory of Allen Wayne Grimes
June 13th, 1952 - July 23rd, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allen Wayne Grimes, "Big Al", who went home to be with The Lord on July 23rd, 2025 at the age of 73. Allen died peacefully in his sleep at the home he loved and helped build over 40 years ago. His loving wife Rose was faithfully by his side. He fought numerous health issues for many years. He was a devoted husband, brother, loving father, proud grandfather, and uncle. He leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, kindness, strength, unwavering love, and faith.
Allen was raised in
Mount Airy, MD by his parents Donald & Virginia Grimes. Allen is survived by his wife Rose Grimes, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership, and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past December 8th. He is also survived by his only sibling, Bob Grimes (and wife Di). Often referred to as "Brother Bob", he provided unwavering support and friendship for Allen over the years. Allen was a proud father to three sons: Josh Grimes (and wife Penny Grimes), Seth Grimes (and wife Stacey Grimes), and Corey Grimes, who each carry forward his values, spirit, and dedication to family. He was also a cherished grandfather to five grandchildren (who affectionately called him "Big Al"); Jacob Grimes, Megan Grimes, Dylan Grimes, Colton Grimes, and Leah Grimes, who brought him immense joy and who will miss his warmth, laughter, and stories.
After graduating from South Carroll High School and Towson State College, Allen was a very successful realtor for 33 years. He was known for his love for blues music and later in life earned the nickname "The Bluesman". Whether spending time with family, encouraging so many through social media and phone calls, or offering to pray for those in need, he had a way of making others feel seen and loved. Many of his son's friends refer to Allen as their 2nd father.
Allen had many hobbies such as skiing, playing the drums, going to music concerts with Rose, and his passion for spending time on the water at both Seneca Lake and Deep Creek Lake. His passion for time on the water has carried onto his three sons at Lake Anna, VA. In addition to his hobbies, he always enjoyed the family dog and sunset views around his home.
Though he may no longer be with us in person, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His memory will be treasured always.
The family will welcome visitors for a viewing on Tuesday, July 29th from 5-8 pm at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Libertytown, MD, where Allen was a parishioner. A funeral mass will also be held at St. Peter's and will take place on Wednesday, July 30th at 11:00 am with Monsignor John Dietzenbach presiding. There will be an interment to follow. St. Peter's is located at 9201 Green Valley Rd, Union Bridge, MD 21791, which is located in Libertytown one block north of the Rts. 75 & 26 intersection. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the
American Diabetes Association.
