Ann Messner (58), of Great Cacapon, WV, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025. Born on June 10, 1966, at the Annie Warner Hospital in Gettysburg, PA, she was the daughter of Marie Messner and the late Larry Messner. She is survived by her loving companion, Roy Kemmer.

Raised in northern Frederick County, Ann was a 1984 graduate of Catoctin High School. She spent much of her career at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD, and, until her recent retirement, was employed by the U.S. Department of Defense at Fort Detrick. Ann dedicated her younger years as a volunteer with the fire/rescue service, where she made significant contributions, including serving as a department chief and instructing numerous EMT-B classes.

Ann was a cherished companion, daughter, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her five children: Dennis Ott and his wife Brooke of Thurmont, MD; Rebecca Coyle and her husband James of Gettysburg, PA; Sarah Ott of Waynesboro, PA; William Ott and his wife Diana of Waynesboro, PA; and Kaitlyn/ Raven Kemmer of Great Cacapon, WV. She is also survived by five beloved grandchildren: Chloe Coyle, Harper Coyle, Avery Ott, Liam Ott, and Mason Ott.

Ann is also survived by her brother Larry "Gene" Messner Jr. and his wife Anna, and sister Kathy Messner. She will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.

I first met Ann in the early 1980s at the Mount and the Kounty. She was a free spirit, full of life with a smile that lit up the room. If you were a friend of Ann´s, that was for life. She gave 100% always. Many years passed between seeing her again, but she made it fell like only moments had passed. She was a wonderful person who I will always remember. My prayers for your families.

I am so heartbroken to hear of this. I'm so sorry to all of the family members of Ann's. I know this is such a huge loss. Ann will forever be in my heart as a great friend! Years ago, I had a family crisis and was out one day, only to come home to find a note on my door. Ann knew I needed a friend. I got to know Ann many years ago in CYA of cheerleading and wrestling. We built a friendship while coaching together and traveling with a competition squad. Ann was greatly loved and will forever be in my heart.
