Donald FitzGibbon Obituary

Donald S. FitzGibbon, 88, of Frederick, MD and Longboat Key, FL, lost his battle with cancer on May 25, 2013 at Blake Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, FL.

Born January 24, 1925 in Yonkers, NY, he was the only child of the late James M FitzGibbon and Alice Forsythe Hennig. Donald was preceded in death in 2005 by his beloved wife of 59 years Naomi Tolson FitzGibbon.

Donald graduated from Pennsylvania's Valley Forge Military Academy and attended Davis and Elkins college in West Virginia. He was a WWII veteran who served as an aerial gunner with the Army Air Corps and also served with the Ninth Air Force in the European theater of operations. He retired as a statistician for the Federal Department of Fisheries and Wildlife.

He enjoyed an active social life with family and friends in both Frederick, MD and Longboat Key, FL. His interests included fishing, "shelling" on the beach, growing African violets, playing cards and eating Maryland crabs at the Elks' Club. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Redskins.

Don will be fondly remembered by all who knew him, especially by Gene and Frances Beall, devoted friends of 62 years and their daughters Cyndi McNamara and Betsy Allen.

Donald is survived by companion Dorothy George and their dog "Fluffy". Also surviving are five nieces, two nephews, and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 27, 2013 at the Buckeystown United Methodist Church in Buckeystown MD. A luncheon honoring Don's life will be held in the church hall immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to either the American Cancer Society or Buckeystown United Methodist Church.
