Donald Meredith "Tex" Hoffman, 89, of Frederick passed away on September 13, 2025 at Spring Arbor of Frederick, Maryland.
Born on October 20, 1935, he was the son of the late Malcom M. Hoffman and the late Eveyln Eaves Hoffman Poplo.
He proudly served in the United States Army and received a certificate of recognition for his service during the Cold War in promoting peace and stability for our Nation.
He was a member of John R. Webb VFW Post 3285, Redmen Chippewa Tribe 19, Owl's Club Nest 4002 and a life member of the Amvets Post MD - 2
He was employed with ESSROC in Frederick, MD as a heavy equipment operator most of his working career that spanned almost 40 years
He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, playing pool, playing golf and spending time with friends and family and in his younger years riding his motorcycle.
He was a devoted husband and was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Connie Louise Brandenburg Hoffman on March 12, 2024.
He is survived by sister Mary Hoffman Marker and half brother Vincent Poplo, sister in laws Michele Poplo, Hilda Shepley Hoffman, Christina Snyder Poplo and Judith Brandenburg.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, Donna Schadel, Karen Eckenrode and husband Randy, Roxanne Brown, Crystal Crapster and husband John, Mark Marker and wife Kim, Craig Marker and wife Jamie, Brenda Cardinale and husband Chris, Stacy Poplo, Charles Anthony Poplo and Heidi Trimble and husband Steve. Sherry Poplo Cramer and husband Dean, Nichole Poplo Moxley and husband Steve, Becky Poplo Hoffman and husband Brendt, and Lara Poplo Casteel and husband Mike.
Donna Burtner and husband Steve, Diana Crane and husband Thomas, Thomas Keller, Renee Brandenburg-Huffer, Charles Brandenburg and wife Jennifer, Susan Ellen Wollard and Andrew Butch Coulombe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Thomas A. Hoffman, Earl Henry "Jim" Hoffman, Casimir Anthony "Tony" Poplo, sister and brother in laws, Clarence Leroy Marker, Ellen Baltzley and husband John, Doris Keller and husband Pete, Janice Geisbert and husband Calvin, Leo Brandenburg and nieces Terry Keller and Yvonne Powell and nephew in law Jack Brown.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 3, 2025 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 at 10 am with a memorial service immediately following at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Timothy S May officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
He was blessed to have special caregivers niece, Donna Burtner and nephew and Godson, Charles Brandenburg who have provided care for him over the last several years. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Spring Arbor of Frederick and the extraordinary caregivers of BridgingLife Hospice Care of Carroll County.
