Dorothy Seiss Obituary

Dorothy E. Seiss, of Emmitsburg, MD, passed away on October 26, 2025, at Homewood in Frederick. Born September 16, 1925, in Altoona, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Humerick and Anne Catherine Humerick nee Taylor and was one of eight siblings. Dorothy spent most of her life in Emmitsburg, having received 12 years of Catholic education before graduating from St. Joseph's High School. She retired from the Thurmont Town Office after 25 years of service. Other notable employment was for the FBI in her younger years. Once retired, Dorothy had many adventures all over the country. While she enjoyed traveling, she was always glad to be back home in Emmitsburg. She was a creative person and particularly enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, and needlework. Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Emmitsburg, and she was a girl scout troop leader for many years in Emmitsburg. Dorothy was an inspiration and source of strength to many. A warm, beautiful person, kind, thoughtful, and nurturing with a wonderful sense of humor. She deeply loved her family, both immediate and extended. We celebrated her 100th birthday on September 16, 2025. It is a true blessing to have had her in our lives for so long. She will always occupy a sacred place in our hearts. Surviving is son, Thomas Seiss (Darlene); daughters, Peggy Mayben, Janet Birch ; grandchildren, Barb (Chris), John (Brenda), Monica (Arnold), Curtis (Daniele), Joseph (Stacey), Steve, Nathan, Emily, and Chelsea; great-grandchildren, Landon, Todd (Carine), Jenna, Arnie (Beca), Rosalyn (Joe), Simeon, Eli (Emilee), Roman, Micah, Cameron, Ellis, Eleanor, Sadi, and Cecilia; and great-great-grandchildren Kylie and Evelynn. Preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lydia Kelly; and all of her siblings, Jack Humerick, Taylor Humerick, Catherine Washabaugh, Helen Brown, Mary Sherwin, Hilda Mahoney, and Marion Boyle. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A., 210 W. Main Street, Emmitsburg (21727). A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 47 Depaul Street, Emmitsburg (21727). Interment will follow immediately at New St. Joseph Cemetery, 331 S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg (21727). Additionally, the family would like to thank the Nurses, CNAs, and staff at Homewood at Frederick for around the clock excellent care. Donations in Dorothy's name may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Emmitsburg (21727), Vigilant Hose Company - Emmitsburg, or to a nonprofit of one's choice. Dorothy Seiss

Yesterday

Sorry to hear of the loss of Dorothy (Lydia´s mom) I was best friends with Lydia and I used to visit her with Lydia. Dorothy was such a strong woman never wanting help or to bother us when we stopped by- my thoughts and prayers go out to her family so glad she was blessed to celebrate her 100th birthday before being reunited with her daughter Lydia & others!
