Ella Derr Obituary
Elizabeth was born and raised in Feagaville, Md. and attended Frederick High School. She graduated from Hood College with a B.S. degree. Her R.N. degree was earned at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Later she finished her Masters in Nursing Education at the University of Maryland. She became an instructor, then Director of Nurses at Frederick Memorial Hospital where she retired after many years of service.
Elizabeth was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Feagaville where she also sang in the choir. Over the years, she held many positions of leadership in the church and the community at large. Her professional interests included many activities in Zonta International, an organization for the empowerment of women. Her passions in life were her church, her community, the nursing profession and her family.
She was preceded in death by niece Ann Schaffer Elder and long time friend David Buhrman. Elizabeth is survived by sister Rebekah Derr Schaffer, niece Susan E. Wade and husband and Gary D. Schaffer DVM and wife. She is also survived by Many great and great-great nieces and nephews living in New Jersey, Maryland and North Carolina.
A memorial service will be held at St Luke's Church in Feagaville on Thursday, July 19, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Elizabeth's name to St. Luke's Church.

Dayna and I send you our sympathy and love on Libby's death. I knew her first when we served together addressing health-related community causes in the 1990's.
I also extend to you the sympathy of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Utica. Many within this congregation knew her and cared for her very much.

Will always remember how she worked for her church. She was so helpful when I was organist at St Lukes years ago.

She was the Director of Nursing when I held my first job out of college in the Community Relations department at FMH. She was always so kind and taught me so much along the way. I was very saddened to hear of her passing, but the fond memories will live on in many people who knew her!

I worked with Ms Derr towards the end of her life. I found her to be a wonderful conversationalist and a sparkling personality. It was my pleasure to make her acquaintance.

It was my great honor to work for this beautiful lady many years ago at the FMH School of Nursing. Miss Derr always had that same smile on her face, always ready to teach, offer support both professionally and personally. Heaven's gates opened wide to welcome this angel. I'll never forget you, Miss Derr. You will live in my heart forever.
