Eugene Klupt Obituary

Dr. Eugene L. Klupt, of Frederick, MD, died at his home surrounded by family on September 25th after battling multiple health issues over the years. He was 91. He was born August 24th, 1934, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar and Hannah Klupt. He graduated from Baltimore City College in 1952 and went on to earn his B.A. from Gettysburg College in 1956. He then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the College of Dentistry of Howard University in 1961, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega fraternity. After completing his degree in dentistry, he moved to New York City for his dental residency at The Jewish Hospital of Brooklyn.

While in New York, he met and married Gale Klupt (nee Parman), who pre-deceased him in 2015. They opened his first dental practice in Brooklyn at Ocean Parkway and Avenue J. After living in Manhattan, and then Brooklyn, they decided they wanted to raise a family outside of a big city environment and moved to Frederick in 1966, where Dr. Klupt maintained a dental practice, first at the Frederick Shopping Center and then at the Toll House Medical Complex across from the hospital. He went on to practice dentistry for almost 4 decades, serving generations of patients.

An active member of Beth Sholom Congregation, he previously served on the Board of Trustees, and for many years he helped run bingo games as a fundraiser for the synagogue. He also served on the executive board of the Frederick County Dental Society.

He always looked forward to his weekly poker game, which he regularly played in until very recently, making lifelong friends that spanned generations. Always interested in aviation, long ago he suggested he and Gale enroll in flying lessons to help her overcome her fear of flying. They both became licensed pilots and were members of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. They enjoyed decades of travel together and were just shy of celebrating 52 years of marriage.

He often said that family was the most important thing to him, and he would bend anyone's ear to crow about the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Klupt and Caitlin Herlihy of Falls Church, VA, and Evan Klupt and Dr. Amy Bass of New Rochelle, NY; grandchildren Hannah, Jack, Benjamin, and Lillian; his brother, Harvey (Pamela) Klupt; His sister-in-law Marjorie Duberstein, and his niece, Jennifer Duberstein.

There will be a graveside service on Friday, September 26th at 12pm at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Hwy., Frederick, MD 21701. In keeping with tradition, please omit flowers. Donations in his honor can be made to The Simon Wiesenthal Center, 1399 S Roxbury Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90035; National Jewish Health, 1400 Jackson St, Denver, CO 80206, or Southern Poverty Law Center, 403 Washington Ave, Montgomery, AL 36104.
