George Brown Obituary

George "Leroy" Brown, 82, of Mount Airy, died suddenly at home Friday, June 13, 2008.

Mr. Brown was the spouse of Nellie Fleming Brown of Mount Airy.

Mr. Brown was born July 14, 1925, in Mount Airy,

the son of the late John Gaver Brown and the late Rena Louise Long Brown.

Most recently Mr. Brown worked for Burrier Queen Funeral Home and Crematory. Previous to that he was a Real Estate and Insurance Agent mostly for Burdette Agency and Frederick Underwriters. Mr. Brown was a head usher at Calvary United Methodist Church for over 32 years, a volunteer at Frederick Memorial Hospital, a former Pilot and a Nissan Zenthusiast.

He was a devoted father to the late Kimberly Barton and her husband, Kenneth Barton, of Mount Airy; loving brother to Hazel Woodfield of Mount Airy; dear grandfather to Jenny and her husband, Mark Haugh.

Funeral Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 16, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 South Main St., Mount Airy, MD 21771 with the Rev. Dennis Yocum officiating. There will be viewing one hour prior at the church. Entombment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Burrier Queen Funeral Home and Crematory , P.A., 1212 W. Old Liberty Rd. Winfield. Those desiring may make contributions to Calvary United Methodist Church 2315 S. Grant St. Arlington VA 22202 or Locust Grove Church of the Brethren 13356 Glissans Mill Rd., Mount Airy MD 21771 or Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Department 702 N. Main St., Mount Airy MD 21771.
