George Gray Obituary

George "Ashley" Gray, 48, of Venice, FL, passed on May 27, 2020, as a result of a motorcycle accident near Woodsboro, MD.

Born on June 7, 1971 in Washington, DC, he was the son to Mason W. Gray IV and the late, Hannah Tyson Lee Sharp Gray.

Along with this father, Ashley leaves behind his 13- year old son, Tyson Maddox Gray; mother to his son, Tracy Cavalier; two brothers, Mason W. Gray V and wife Jackie of Frederick, MD, Charlton Benjamin Gray and wife Susie of Fairfield, PA; his uncle, George T. Sharp, Jr. and wife Joan of New Mexico; Jane Gray Peters and husband Jim of Georgetown, DE; Elizabeth Dean Gray Wroth and husband Ted of Pawleys Island, SC and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ashley was a talented artist and sculptor. He created beautiful birds carved from wood and then he would paint them with precision and style which gave them the "life like" quality of realism. The birds he would create seemed as though they could just "fly off".

His talent coupled with an effervescent personality made him a star to behold and a bright light which illuminated and buoyed the spirits of all who knew him. Ashley always said of his many artistic creations, "It is not my work, it is God's work, I am the lucky one because he does it through my hands."

Ashley was driven, hardworking, honest and honorable. He had a good, loving heart and will be missed deeply. Like his bird creations appeared to have the ability to fly, his spirit has flown to his heavenly perch.

Memorial service will be held at Hilton Funeral Home in Barnesville as soon as our crisis situation has abated.

I met Ashley Gray at the Farmers Market May 17th 2018. He was witnessing to my father and gave him a free bag of nuts. I came back to thank him and ended up talking to him for 4 hours. We were both evangelist and loved the Lord. He was my brother and I was his sister. We had the most amazing relationship. Jeep Rides,Joe Maxx,Walking the Beach,Franklin Graham and our Secret Place where we all met to pray. My sister and I baptized him in our pool a couple months before he died. My sisters and I were very blessed to spend so much time with him before he left to be with Jesus. I am so honored to have known him and thank God for his amazing 2 year relationship. Love You Ashley Gray. See you Soon. Your Sister in Him!

My heart ached after hearing the news of Ashley. Our thoughts and prayers are lift the entire family, especially for Tyson. Ashley and I were long distance prayer partners; Lifting and encouraging each other since the day we met in Grand Rapids, MI in 2012 at ArtPrize. We were both showing our works at the same venue. I invited him to walk to the local bakery for coffee and a baked good. We have remained in touch ever since. His artistic talents were always expressing his love for God's creation, but most importantly to give God the glory in every glorious detail in every stroke of the brush and the sculpting tool. His warm and compassion, uplifting heart will be greatly missed, along with his sense of humor. My brother in Christ is now in the arms of the Master Artist Jesus in glory, of whom I shall see again some day! Miss you brother. Again our prayers go out to the entire family.

So So sorry to hear of this terrible accident. I first met Ashley when he was looking to buy a Jeep in Venice. With his outgoing personality, it was easy to connect. Then we met up again in Costco and had a lot to talk about, as we both came from the edible nuts industry. Diversification and being real is what made Ashley special. Too soon my friend. My God bless you and your family during this difficult time..... Ed Johnson, Venice, FL

Although i haven't seen Ashley since our High School years, He was a good friend, with a genuine personality. He used to come over to our family farm and ride four wheelers. I remember him getting his new Suzuki 4x4 buried in our swamp and how mad my father was to have to pull him out with a tractor. Good times. And coming from an artistic family myself, we were facilitated with his excellent woodcarver abilities . My only regret it not trying to track him down to reconnect with him later in life. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family.

We were so sad to hear about Ashleys untimely death. He was an amazing creative man whose spirit will always live on in your hearts and in his art.
His carvings were so lifelike it felt like you could run your fingers through the feathers of his birds.

Bob and I have known Ashley since he was a baby. Through the years, it
Was fun watching him grow into the most fun loving, responsible young man. Ashley was such a handsome, outgoing person that made everyone enjoy being with him. The only thing that comforts us is knowing that he is with his Mom Hannah in heaven. Our hearts are broken.

You are one of our family. Always in our hearts at Phillippi Farmhouse Market, Sarasota, FL

May 30, 2020

Hi this is Kelly Quinn, I'm So very sorry for his families loss. I will miss my friend. We had always meant to meet up again. His inspiration continues in my work today.
I remember when we would go on our pontoon boat at Lake Linganore and fuss around swimming and stuff. in the winter we would sled down to the dam on occasion when it snowed. I ended up moving to Arizona twice and moved back to Virginia and came and visited him at his parents home in Myersville. I just cant say much more but he will be missed.

This is deeply saddening. Ashley was a good friend to my son Christian Meyer and as they were growing up I watched their hilarious antics. One day I came home and found a duck on my kitchen table. It was so realistic I thought it was alive and yelped! Ashley had carved it and had a good laugh at my reaction. He was so wonderfully lovable. We are all blessed for having known him.
