Gladys May

1928 - 2025

Gladys Virginia May, age 96, of Thurmont, Maryland passed peacefully from this life on November 5, 2025, at Frederick Health Hospital. To all who knew her, her determination and resiliency was noticeably prominent and guided her through life until the good Lord took her home.

She attended school in Thurmont, with her education shortened by a need to stay home and help her family during the Great Depression. Her first and only employment was working on the assembly line at the Cambridge Rubber Company in Taneytown, Maryland. She worked there for 2 years before she and her husband Truman started a family. From that moment on she devoted her entire life to her family and her home. She excelled at cooking and all things home related. Meals were made from scratch, clothes were laundered, mended, and ironed (even to this day), and spring house cleaning was an annual year-long project.

She and Truman were married at Catoctin United Methodist Church on June 4, 1948, and celebrated 72 years of marriage. Their family includes Sandy (Jim) Schrock, Larry (Shiela) May, Marty (Tommy) Carlin, and two grandchildren. Siblings include sister Nancy Fraley and two nieces, and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband Truman May, brother Richard Green, and son-in-law Tommy Carlin.

Her hobbies over the years included sewing, gardening, canning, cooking, and the simplicity of spending time at home.

A graveside service will be held Monday, November 10, 2025, at 11:00AM at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 Catoctin Mountain Highway, Frederick, MD 21701.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105) or to The Salvation Army (902 N. East Street, Frederick, MD 21701).
