James Kemp Obituary

James L. Kemp, 86, of Emmitsburg died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation in Taneytown. He was born May 26, 1923, in Frederick, the son of the late Ruth A. Kemp (Stup) and Charles L. Kemp.

He was predeceased by his wife Ruth M. Kemp (Eiker) in 1986.

He worked for 36 years as a butcher at A & P Grocers. After retirement he owned Jim's Lock and Key. He was a member of the American Legion Post #121 VFW Post in Emmitsburg. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling. He was an honorary member of the Vigilant Hose Co. No. 25 of Emmitsburg. He served in the United States Army in World War II.

Surviving is a daughter, Beverly V. Kemp of Thurmont, daughter and son-in-law Wanda and Ralph Boone of Frederick; and a sister, Mary G. Norwood of Gettysburg. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by a son, James R. Diller.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, with Pastor Jon Greenstone officiating. Interment will follow in the Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
