James Reeder Obituary

James (Jimmy) Reeder, 58 died at approximately 2:55 AM, Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore Maryland. He was born July 19, 1954 in Bethesda, Maryland, to the late James C. Reeder and Laura Francis (Reeder) Hooper. He resided in Jefferson with his wife of 16 years, Darlene A. Reeder.

Also surviving in addition to his mother and wife are his son James Chester (Chet) Reeder, III of Rochester, NY, his step daughter Jennifer Parrish and her husband Elton Parrish of Jefferson, MD, his brother Robin Michael Reeder and his wife Chris Reeder of Frederick, MD, his half sister Tammy Welty of Thurmont, MD, his step brother Danny Hooper of Mercersburg, PA, and step sister Tracy Shaffer of Gettysburg, PA; 3 grand children, John Vanfossen, Cameron and Ethan Parrish, last surviving uncle and aunt Bruce Reeder Sr. and his wife Odette Reeder and numerous cousins. Especially close to him were Donnie Blumenauer and wife Nancy, Susan Jesse, Bruce and Chuck Reeder and their spouses along with Kathy Bogush and Jeff Landis who were like siblings to him.

Jimmy was elected to the Board of Education in November 2010 for a four-year term December 2010-14. A 1972 graduate of Governor Thomas Johnson High School, he lettered nine times in three varsity sports and was an Eagle Scout with Order of the Arrow credentials.

Jimmy was a member of the Board's Facilities and Finance Committee and liaison to the Board of County Commissioners' Interagency Internal Audit Authority, Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Cost Savings Synergies Committee. He is also liaison to the Maryland Association of Boards of Education Budget and Planning Committee.

Jimmy was a 1987 graduate of the Maryland Bankers School and has 38 years of professional banking experience. Until the sale of Farmers and Mechanics Bank in 2003, he was the vice president and Service Center manager. After the merger, he was hired by Mercantile Bankshares as vice president and director of Deposit Operations. Mr. Reeder is vice president and Branch manager of the Westview Corner Office for The Columbia Bank.

Jimmy loved watching his favorite sport teams; the Redskins, Orioles and the Caps, and not a day would go by without a heavy dose of Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. Yes, he was proud to be a conservative and ready to debate anyone on issues and principles.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Sunday, July 7 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, July 8th at 10:00AM with Rev. Tim May officiating.

Following the service, close friends and family will gather at the home of Kathy Bogush.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 31 East Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701, Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, 6213 Picnic Woods Rd., Jefferson, MD 21755 or to the Bettie Jane Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 225, Braddock Heights, MD 21714.
