Jo Norris Obituary

Jo Ann Burns Norris of Hagerstown, MD completed her life's journey on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at the age of 80.

Born October 5, 1942 in Olney, MD. Jo Ann was the daughter of the late Winfred Burns and Alberta Phelps Day. Her father saw her only once before he was killed in France of July 4, 1944 during World War II. She grew up in Kemptown where she had a lifetime of wonderful memories with the Kemptown Bunch.

Jo Ann graduated from Frederick High Class of 1960 and retired from the US Department of Energy. She was a member of Montgomery United Methodist Church. She organized and was the Queen Mum of the Roaming Red Hat Ladies for over 16 years. She enjoyed her outings with her Cortland Manor friends, her countless lifelong friends, her high school classmate lunches and reunions and attending all activities that her grandchildren participated in. Over the years she enjoyed traveling , especially cruises.

Her greatest joy was her family. She was the loving Mother to her daughter Dana Jo Sentz and husband Michael of New Windsor, devoted Mom-Maw to her four grandchildren, Drew Norris and wife Lindsei of Florida, Briana Norris and fiancee DJ Pitcock, of Hagerstown, Michael Sentz V of Hanover, PA and Matthew Sentz of New Windsor, Great-Granddaughters Olivia Rose and Riley J Norris of Florida, one sister Ruth Johnson of Lewes, DE, Daughter-in-law Melissa Norris of Hagerstown, and several nieces, nephew, cousins and in-laws who were all very special to her. Another Great-Grandbaby is due in May 2023

Jo Ann was predeceased by her parents, her devoted son Duane Norris, two loving stepfathers Herbert Kendall and Ray Day and brother-in-law Larry Johnson.

Jo Ann's wishes were for her SERVICES TO BE PRIVATE. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved son at Montgomery Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be sent to Boy Scout Troop #460, Calvary Methodist Church, 403 S. Main Street, Mt. Airy, MD 21771 with notation " In Memory of Duane and Jo Anne Norris".

Ruthie and family, we're sorry to hear about the loss of Jo Ann. We're sure that this is a very difficult time for you and your family. Working with you and Jo Ann at DOE and getting to know you and your family was a pleasure over the years, even when your mother lived below my mother in the Apartments at Walkersville. We hope that it comforts you to know that others care and are thinking about you during your time of grief and sorrow.
