Joseph Cadwalader Obituary

Mr. Joseph Benton Cadwalader, 80, of Maryland Odd Fellows Home, Frederick, died Saturday, July 5, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Claire L. Painter Cadwalader.

Born Sept. 22, 1922, in Bristol, Pa., he was a son of the late Clarence J. and Mary Quinter Cadwalader.

Mr. Cadwalader was a graduate of Pottstown (Pa.) High School, where he excelled in sports and was the star pitcher of the baseball team.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and was assigned to the 741st Bombardment Squadron, 455th Bomb Group, 304th Wing, 15th Air Force. He was a combat veteran of missions in the Italian Campaign as a ball turret gunner aboard a B-24 Liberator.

Following his military service, he worked as a kitchen designer and owned and operated Kitchens By Cadwalader in Frostburg and in the Western Maryland area from 1958 until his retirement in 1993.

He was a past president and former member of the Rotary Club of Frostburg, and was a former member of the Lions Club.

Surviving are one son, Russell J. Cadwalader and wife Marsha of Ocean Pines; one daughter, Sandra C. Whidden and husband Guy C. III of Braddock Heights; two grandchildren, Adam Cadwalader and wife Katie, and Sarah Cadwalader; one sister, Mary Boyer of Douglasville, Pa.; one niece, Gerry Maleski and husband Richard; and one nephew, Joseph Moore and wife Linda.

Private services and interment will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Pottstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 108 Byte Drive, Suite 103, Frederick, Md. 21702.

Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Frederick, is in charge of arrangements.
