Karim Mansouri, M.D. (age 76) passed away Friday, January 13, 2012. Dr. Mansouri came to the U.S. in 1961 to further his medical career. He was born on March 11, 1935 in Shiraz, Iran. He left Iran for a medical Fellowship in Paris, France before arriving in the United States of America.
He was Chief Resident in Internal Medicine at the Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, NJ before joining the V.A. system where he was a pioneer in zinc metabolic research under the leadership of Dr. James Halstead in Washington, D.C. His research articles appeared in The Journal of Internal Medicine. He then was in the private practice of Internal Medicine for 25 years in Elmira, N.Y. where he partnered with Dr. William Kelly. In 1992 he rejoined the V.A. medical system where he headed a new Mobile Clinic based in Prescott, Az. He was awarded the Arizona Medical Innovations Award for that year for his work. He then joined the V.A. in Cumberland, Md. until his retirement.
Dr. Mansouri married Rosalyn Lee Asherman in 1966. They have two sons: Richard Paul Mansouri (Leila) residing in New York City, and Edward Bryan Mansouri (Virginia) who lives in Tallahassee, Fl. He is also survived by four grandchildren: William, Maxwell, Abigail and Mason.
He has the following surviving siblings: Ahmad, CA, Jafar, CA Hamid (Sweden), Majid, (Virginia), Ashraf and Rahim both still in Iran. Brother and Sister-in law Herbert Asherman (Renee) also survive him as well as their daughters Georgette and Sharon. There are also many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
Friends and family may call at the family owned Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home, Inc., 6500 York Road, (at Overbrook Road), Baltimore, MD 21212 on Monday, January 16 from 10 AM to 12 Noon, at which time a funeral service will be held. Interment will follow in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, 200 E. Padonia Road, Timonium, MD 21093.
