Martha Jane Long, 83, of
Woodsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Sunday January 25th, at Frederick Health Hospital in
Frederick, MD.
Born on October 4, 1942, in
Thurmont, MD, she was the daughter of the late Nevin C. Jackson, Sr. and Bessie Viola (Baker) Jackson.
She grew up in
Thurmont, MD, graduating from Thurmont High School.
In her younger years she worked for Ben's Truck Stop, Thurmont Shoe Factory, Beckley's Motel in Frederick, Frederick Nursing Center and retired from Citizen's Care and Rehab Center after 28 years of service. She was a member of the Frederick County Fire Police; also she belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club in Frederick, and a social member of Lewistown Volunteer Fire Dept.
Martha spent 2 1/2 years in Germany and always enjoyed spending her birthday at Oktoberfest. She also found great joy in duckpin bowling. fishing, carnivals, and especially the Great Frederick Fair as well as family "get togethers". But most of all she enjoyed what time she could spend with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was married twice, first to Lawrence E. Bowman and then Gary Lee Long, divorcing both but remaining good friends. They have since predeceased Martha.
She is survived by her children, Brian L. Bowman (Robin), Robert F. Bowman, Brenda L. Deener (Gary) and Christy D. Long (Richie); her eight grandchildren Mark, Brandon, Kyle, Brett, Shelby, Melissa, Alyssia, Wyatt and Devin and Dalton Wine whom she considered grandsons; six great-grandchildren Aubrey, Mark, Jr., Savannah, Kennedy, Gabe, Sophia and Feris; her siblings the devoted Franie Wachter (Tommy) who been with Martha through sickness and health, Donna Read,; and special nieces Kim Wetzel and Tammy Turner. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters, Doris Jackson and Gloria Wetzel and brothers Richard, Kenneth, Roy, Roland, and Nevin C. Jackson Jr. She will miss all her family and she "loves you all"'
The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street,
Thurmont, MD on Sunday February 1st from 4 to 8 pm.; where a celebration of her life journey will be held on Monday February 2nd at 11 am. Rev. Tim May will officiate. Interment will follow in Weller United Methodist Church Cemetery,
Thurmont, MD.
