She graduated from Frederick High School in 1941 and then worked in the Treasurer's Office at Hood College until 1943. Even though she never saw active duty, she joined the WWII Nurses Cadet Corp in September 1943, remaining in the Corp until 1946. She worked at Washington County Hospital as a registered nurse until 1965, both in a full-time and part-time capacity. After leaving the Washington County Hospital, she worked part-time and then full-time as the office nurse for the Hagerstown Surgical Clinic until her retirement in September 1988.

She was married on August 25, 1948, to Walter Franklin Roulette in a ceremony in Sharpsburg, MD. They settled in Hagerstown, MD, and had 2 children, John David Roulette, born October 23, 1950, and Elizabeth Ann Roulette, born June 10, 1956.

Mary Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband in 1970, and her son, David, in 1977. Surviving is her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Roulette Baseler (husband, Dr. Michael W. Baseler) of Union Bridge, MD, and daughter-in-law, Barbara Wolf Roulette of Hagerstown, MD. She was blessed with 4 grandchildren, Joseph Franklin Crisp of Richmond, VA, Susan Elizabeth Crisp of Reisterstown, MD, Sarah Louise Tully (husband, Chris) of Hershey, PA, and Jennifer Ann Roulette Crisp (husband, Mike Kurtz) of Lancaster, PA. She is also survived by 6 great grandchildren, Dominic Anthony Sambataro of Reisterstown, MD, Lucas Gregory and Jacob David Baseler of Ijamsville, MD, Beau William Baseler of Gunnison, CO, and Owen Roulette and Wade Stephen Tully of Hershey, PA. In addition, she is survived by 9 nieces, 3 nephews, a number of grand nieces, grand nephews, their families, and several cousins. She is survived by numerous close friends, especially Vivian and Wayne Smith, Betty Roney, and others.

She was a long-term member of Zion Reformed United Church of Christ, Hagerstown, MD, serving as a Sunday School teacher, consistory member, and serving on several committees, including the visitation committee, service workers, and soup kitchen.

After retirement, she stayed busy volunteering with the Red Cross Bloodmobile, and at Hagerstown Community College working at the activities desk in the ARC. She was an avid reader, loved to walk, played 500 and Bridge, and loved to spend time with her friends and family. She was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan.

In April 2024, family and friends celebrated her 100th birthday with several parties and celebrations. She lived a life filled with love, family, service, strength, and resilience - qualities she embodied every single day.

She lived at Somerford House Assisted Living Facility in Frederick, MD, since October 2022, enjoying many activities and making new friends. In early December 2024, she was part of a group from Somerford who visited the White House for a tour and pictures. The family would like to thank the staff at Somerford House for their care and professionalism.

Beth and Barbara and family, I was saddened to read of "Betsy's" passing in the Frederick paper. She and my Mom, Ethel, were good friends and nurses together graduating just 1 year apart from Washing Co School of nursing And I remember her as David's mom from school. She was a very caring person and left us in a better place. Peace, Pat Swomley Freedy
