O. Hess Obituary

O. Robert Hess passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, under Bridging Life Hospice Care at Homewood in Frederick, with his daughter Emily by his side. He was born July 3, 1939, in Warsaw, NY to O. Ray and Kessel (Kay) Mills Hess, and was the second oldest of 4 children. He resided at Homewood for over 4 yrs, enjoying the care he was given and participating in most of the daily activities with his wife by his side.

After graduating from Jamestown High School and Jamestown Junior College, Bob was given the opportunity to finish his degree in History at Florida State University. In the 90's he received his MBA at Frostburg State University, (FSU x2).

Bob enlisted in the US Army, serving one tour of duty in Okinawa Japan. While there, he volunteered and taught English at an all-girl's high school. Upon discharge from the Army, Bob worked at Cape Kennedy where he worked on the Space Programs including the Lunar Landing and the Gemini. He then transferred to Goddard Space and Flight Center in Greenbelt.

Bob was introduced to his future wife by mutual friends. He married Susan Lincoln on November 28, 1968, which was Thanksgiving Day. They were the third generation to marry on that day after Susan's parents and grandparents.

Throughout his adult life, Bob volunteered for several organizations. He taught Vacation Bible School and held the office of President of the Walkersville Council of Churches. He was also the President of the Walkersville Library Board. He enjoyed volunteering weekly at the Walkersville Food Bank. Being a lifelong history buff, Bob was a Master Docent at the Museum of Civil War Medicine.

Bob is survived by his wife Susan and their 3 children Brian Hess, Karen Dent (d. Wayne) and Emily Hess. He was immensely proud of them and their very strong work ethics. He leaves one sister Ruth Nagarya and two sisters-in-law Norma Hess and Barbara Lincoln Hogan. Bob is remembered by many nephews and nieces and their children. He was predeceased by his sister Jeanne McGeorge and his brother Ron Hess.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Bob's memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, Grand Central Station P. O. Box 4777 New York, NY 10163 or Walkersville United Methodist Church. Additionally, if you feel so inclined, think of the donation of yourself to the Maryland State Anatomy Board for future doctors and research (655 West Baltimore Street, Room B-026 Baltimore Md 20201, 410-547-1222).

There will be a Memorial Service held in Bob's name on Saturday November 8, 2025, with family visitation at 1pm and service beginning at 2pm. For those who cannot attend, the service will be aired on YouTube on @walkersvilleumcmaryland3837 for those who wish to join the family in honoring Bob. O. Robert Hess
