Paul Knott Obituary

Paul Philip Knott, of Burlington, WV, died on November 11, 2018 following a brief illness, with his four daughters at his side. He was born August 31, 1937, to Roger and Marie Knott, in Frederick County, Maryland, the youngest of fourteen children. He received a formal Catholic school education. He worked hard to build a herd and start his own dairy farm with his wife Delores. His heart was broken when Delores passed away in 1984.

He proudly served in the US Army. After farming, he worked different jobs but was known as a handyman extraordinaire and a natural problem solver. He just knew how things worked. Over the last six years, he was our "Gypsy Dad" and "Traveling Roommate" living with one of his daughters for a few months, then moving on to another daughter's home until it was time to move on again, where there was always a good dog and a lazy cat or two waiting for him. These six years were precious to all of us. He enjoyed spending much time with the grands and great-grands, and being "Big Pap" to his grandkids and their many friends.

He is survived by his daughters Ann Knott, Linda Knott, Susan Knott Lyons and Janet (Lorie) Knott Bacorn. He is also survived by his sons-in-law, John Lyons and Gary Bacorn, his brother Bill Knott and wife Martha, of Keymar, MD, sister-in-law Mary Knott of Charles Town, WV, sister-in-law Joan Knott of Mt. Airy, MD, sister-in-law Mary Knott of Glastonbury, CT, and brother-in-law Dan Giesinger of Adamstown, MD. In addition to his wife, Delores, he was pre-deceased by a son-in-law, Richard Gauthier, and was the beloved son-in-law of the late Henry and Lorraine Layman.

In addition to his daughters, he is survived by grandchildren Paul, Zachary, Molly, Jacob, Daisy, Lauren, Amy and Pearl. Great grandchildren Rachel, Jenna, Myles, Vance, Rylee, Charlie, Moses, Dylan and Naomi.

He leaves behind dozens of nieces and nephews who meant the world to him. He is fondly remembered by Randy Kuhn and Jeff Kuhn and their families, and honorary granddaughters Shelby Lester and Amealea Leath.

Paul was a humble man and would want us all to just go out and be good to each other and take the high road when faced with a choice.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 2-4 p.m.

His remains will be laid to rest beside Delores at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick, MD, followed by fellowship at a date to be announced.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Donations may be made to the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department PO Box 97, Burlington, WV 26710.

Condolences and personal reflections to the family may be left after Mr. Knott's obituary at smithfuneralhomes.net.
