Peter Cormick Hearn, a devoted public servant, beloved father, grandfather, and cherished family member, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born on April 26, 1947, to Edna and Cormick Hearn, Peter was raised in the vibrant neighborhoods of Brooklyn, New York. It was there that he embraced the values of hard work, loyalty, and community-principles that guided him throughout his life. He pursued studies in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of New York University and later earned his master's degree in the same field from the University of Maryland.
Peter began his professional journey as a civilian employee with the United States Navy before embarking on what would become a distinguished and influential career with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Over more than 50 years of dedicated service, he rose to senior leadership within the agency. He was respected by colleagues as a steady, meticulous, and principled professional whose unwavering commitment to public service profoundly contributed to the safety and integrity of the nation's nuclear programs.
While Peter took great pride in his professional accomplishments, his greatest joy in life was his family. He was the proud and loving father of four sons-Jason, Jon, Matt, and Mike. To them, he was a constant source of strength, guidance, and encouragement. He was known for being present at every turn of their childhoods, from karate lessons to baseball games, offering support, wisdom, and unwavering love. His influence shaped their lives in deep and lasting ways.
Peter will be remembered for his quick wit, steadfast sense of duty, and enduring devotion to those he loved. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched-through his work, his friendships, and most especially through his children and grandchildren, who carry forward the values he instilled.
Peter is survived by his sister, Joan; his nieces and nephews; his four sons and their wives, Jason and Jessica, Jon and Elizabeth, Matt and Leslie, and Mike and Shanna; and his nine grandchildren, all of whom will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
Relatives and friends will be received on Friday, November 21, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Thompson Harman Funeral Home, 31 E Main Street, Middletown, MD 21769.
