Richard Curran Obituary

Mr. Richard Paul "Rich" Curran, 39, of 5683 Glenrock Drive, Frederick, died suddenly Sunday, Jan. 31, at his residence.

He was the husband of Janet Arlene Curran.

Born March 13, 1959, in Norwich, Conn., he was the son of William J. Curran of Williamantic, Conn., and Grace Bullard Curran of Franklin, Conn.

He attended University of Connecticut.

He had been employed for the past eight years with the Marriott Corp. in Frederick.

Active in the community, he had been a longtime member of the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department where he also served as an emergency medical technician.

In Frederick, he volunteered on a regular basis at Ballenger Creek Elementary and Middle schools, and was a member and current president of the Student Parent Teacher Association of the elementary school, and served in capacities with the National SPTA.

He served as a den leader for Cub Scout Pack 792, and also Scout Troop Pack 792, and also volunteered as assistant coach of Grease Monkeys Little League baseball team.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are two sons, Richard William and Steven Andrew Paul Curran, both at home; two brothers, William James Curran Jr. of Manchester, Conn., and Thomas Mark Curran of Franklin; two sisters, Cheryl A. McKinney of Franklin, and Nancy Ellen Miller of Norwich; one aunt and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St.

Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home. The Rev. Michael P. Brubaker, assistant pastor of the Grace Brethren Church, Frederick, will officiate.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to a scholarship fund for his two sons, in care of the Fredericktowne Bank and Trust Co., P.O. Box 510, Frederick, Md. 21705, in care of Fred Genau.
