Robert Ramsey Obituary

August 31, 2025 Robert W. Ramsey Jr. passed away peacefully at Kline Hospice House in Mount Airey, Maryland. 'Bob', to his friends and acquaintances, was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina on December 15, 1932 to Robert Wilbur and Martha Newcomer Ramsey.

Bob grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina where his passions developed early. He enjoyed building model airplanes, tinkering in his father's audio electronics shop, and took up playing the tuba-all foundations to his lifelong passions. As time went on, he found opportunities to play his tuba with community bands including with the award-winning Frederick Spires Brass Band. An avid audiophile, Bob delighted in the pursuit of quality sound and had an expansive appreciation for music and audio technology.

In 1955, Bob earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics at the Georgia Institute of Technology and married his high school sweetheart, Carole Moore. He started his career in nuclear engineering with the Atomic Energy Commission at Savannah River Nuclear Site and settled in Aiken South Carolina to start a family. During his 30+ year career in federal government service he worked on complex projects in support of nuclear research and management. His federal career culminated with a senior position at the Department of Energy, administering nuclear site decommissioning and nuclear waste disposal.

Bob was predeceased by his wife Beverly Ausmus Ramsey, and by his first wife and mother of his children, Carole Moore Ramsey. He is survived by his five children: Robert W. Ramsey III (Anne); Linda Goldberg (Tom); Paul Ramsey (Michelle); Cynthia Ramsey; and Karen Anderson (Chris). His familial legacy includes ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Friday September 5, at 3:00 pm followed by visitation at Hartzler Funeral Home in Woodsboro, Maryland. Interment will be in Forest Lawn West Cemetery in Charlotte, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to National Public Radio or to WBJC Maryland's Classical Music Station.

I am so sorry to see this but so glad we got to meet your Dad at Spring Arbor- Cottage. I bet your Dad is all smiles, like always, walking around playing his tuba to his heart content. I so enjoyed the one time he played for us during a party, his singing every word with Patrick and Lisa on Fridays or just humming to himself. Sorry we were not there at Cottage before he left to go to Kline. My Mother and I will be thinking about you. Maybe my Dad will find your Dad in Heaven

My deepest sympathy for the family. We helped Mr. Ramsey with lawn care needs years ago. He was very kind and we liked talking to him and Beverly.
