Ronald Sweeney Obituary

Ronald Leroy Sweeney, 65, of Emmitsburg, MD, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at his home. Born November 7, 1946 in Thurmont, MD, he was the son of the late Donald and Betty Ridenour Sweeney. He was the husband of Julie Eckenrode Sweeney, his wife of 44 years.

He attended St. Joseph CatholicChurchin Emmitsburg and worked as a custodian at the National Fire Academy for 14 years. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and spending time with family, especially his grandson. He was an avid sports fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Cynthia Sweeney of Middletown, MD and Kathleen Sweeney of Emmitsburg; son, Jeremy Sweeney of Emmitsburg; two sisters, Maxine Shriner of Emmitsburg, and Alicia Wood and compan- ion, Dale LaMendola, of Emmitsburg; two brothers, Donnie and Jackie Sweeney, both of Emmitsburg, grandson, Cathan Sweeney; and several nieces and nephews. He waspredeceased by his brother, Albert Sweeney.

Funeral arrangements are private. Memorial contributions to help defray final expenses may be made to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD, 21727. Should contributions exceed final expenses, they will be divided between two charities: Kennedy Krieger Institute for Children with Special Needs or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
