Sherri Smith Obituary

Sherri Lee Smith completed her major project, passing at Johns Hopkins Hospital on 11 November 2025. Born in Mooreland, Oklahoma on 07 October 1951 into a great ranching family living north-east of Mooreland, she began her adventure of life, embracing her many projects along the way.

She attended Woodward High School, graduating in 1969; followed by college at Oklahoma State University graduating with a B.S. In Microbiology in1973. Later in life she attended graduate school at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, completing her Master of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in1984.Sherri's employment included working as a Nurse's Aide, Medical Laboratory Technologist, Neurosurgery Research Laboratory Technician, and Tax Preparer - all while being a Devoted Military Spouse and Mother. She was an avid musician, playing the saxophone in high school marching band, and served as Drum Major throughout her four years. She enjoyed Girl Scouts and was a Varsity Basketball player in High School. Sherri was a devout practitioner of Nichiren Soshu Buddhism, faithfully following the teachings of Nicheiren Daishonin; serving in a variety of leadership positions. Throughout her life, Sherri 's projects all became deep passions, in which she showed innate proficiency and talent. These included horseback riding, needle point, quilting, pen & ink sketching, watercolor painting, gardening; home decorating, and she was also an overall lover of rock-and-roll, animals, the beach, wildflowers and orchids, and everything Halloween.

Sherri was the cherished wife and lifelong friend to David J. Smith (another project?), and a loving mother to three magnificent children; Bradley, Jessica Sue, and Patrick. And, of course, she thrived in her role as Nana to her granddaughters Harper and Audrey.

She is preceded by her parents, Edgar Frank, Jr. and Alma Joyce (Hicks) Moore, and her brother, Lonnie.

Sherri is survived by her husband David, her three children Bradley Cook and wife Angelina; Jessica Sue (Smith) Kawalek, husband James, granddaughters Harper SueAnn and Audrey Mae; and Patrick Quinlan Ryan Smith and husband Greg Howell. Other surviving family and friends include her sister Nancy (Moore) Lewis and her children and grandchildren; sister-in-law Jeanne Moore, close cousins and their families from the Hicks family Vicki, Holly, Bobby, Steve, Susan Jeff, Jimmy, Reba, and second-cousin Joe Bob Stump; and from the Moore family Kristi, Gary and Suzanne; nephew Mason Andrews and wife Rae-Lyn and daughters Hailey and Macie; cousin Susan (Harrison) Guerra, husband Ruben, children Michael and wife Dana and family; Stephanie DelCampo and husband Robert and family; and Gail Kathleen Beaver and husband Jason and family; Joe & Rosella Kawalek, and Kiera Kawalek-Nay & husband Randy Nay; Connie and David Bushnell; and Karen and Michael Weaver & Jax Santiago.

May we all carry on her legacy! Her life is easily summed up as loving, devoted, and artistic.
