Shirley Swaim Obituary

Mrs. Shirley "Peck" Ann Swaim, 80, of Frederick, MD passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Kirk Swaim and was preceded in death by her first husband Norman H. Stine, Sr. in 1966.

Born September 21, 1936 in Woodsboro, MD she was the daughter of the late John Wilson and Catharine LaRue Smith Winebrenner.

Peck was a 1954 graduate of Walkersville High School in a class of 30. She retired from Acme Markets in 1988 after 30 years of service. After retiring from Acme, she opened a craft business with her family, and sold her hand made items at craft shows. Peck enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, all animals and cooking for her family. She also enjoyed history, especially colonial time and the Civil War era. She lovingly sewed many period costumes for herself and her family through the years for living history interpretations. She was known for her open hearth cooking skills and lye soap making. Peck was a long time volunteer at Rose Hill Manor Children's Museum, acting as a tour guide, museum store manager and member of the Museum council. She was a former member of the Civil War Round Table.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her two children Susan M. (Stine) Mort and husband Randy and Norman H. Stine, Jr. (Buster) and fiance Mary Spielman; granddaughter Shannon Mort Chambers and husband Tommy and great-grandson Gavin Thomas Chambers. She will also be missed by her several cats at home.

The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM where a service will be held Saturday, August 19 at 2PM. Rev. Toni Fish will officiate.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in her honor to be sent to the Frederick Co. Humane Society, Frederick, MD or the Civil War Trust, 1156 15th St., N.W., Suite 900, Washington, D.C. 2005.

Interment will follow at the Chapel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
