Sonia Marshall Mayer

Mrs. Sonia Marshall Mayer, 73, of 31 Skylark Trail, Carroll Valley, Pa., died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at the Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, Pa.

Born Oct. 27, 1935, in Coledale, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Nancy Jepko Marshall. She is survived by her husband, David Mayer.

Mrs. Mayer graduated from Towson High School, Towson. She then married Joseph Onion and they had five daughters, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Sonia retired nine years ago from St. Catherine's Nursing Center in Emmitsburg, where she had worked for eight years as a manager. Since retirement, she has spent time in Ocean City. Sonia had two stepsons by her second marriage.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Mayer is survived by five daughters, Karen Yvonne Mayben of Fairfield, Pa., Candace Marie Martin of Westminster, Kathryn Ann Bollinger of Manchester, JoAnn Meseke of Brunswick, Ga., and Kimberly Ann Corington of Westminster; two stepsons, Michael G. Mayer of Baltimore and Timothy W. Mayer of Hawaii; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Dowling of Towson.

Services were private. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg, Pa. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
