Pastor Stephen W. Burdette

1955 - 2024

Pastor Stephen W. Burdette, 68, of Blue Ridge Summit, PA, passed away Saturday morning, January 27, 2024, in his home.

Born March 25, 1955 in Damascus, MD, he was the son of the late Wallace Franklin and Dolly Mae (Keeney) Burdette.

Steve graduated from Damascus High School with the Class of 1974. He later graduated from Academy Art School and received his minister's license.

He and his wife of over 47 years, Katherine E. (Johnson) Burdette, were married on August 14, 1976, in Mt. Airy, MD.

Steve was a minister at various churches throughout his life. He was also a professional artist, including teaching art and owning his own gallery at Tracey's Corner in Blue Ridge Summit. Steve was also currently serving as the chaplain of Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue.

He was a member of the Waynesboro Fish and Game Association and the National Rifle Association.

Steve enjoyed fishing, shooting his gun, hanging out with his friends at McDonald's, spending time with his grandchildren and taking walks with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, William S. Burdette (Mandy) of Smithsburg, MD, Russell T. Burdette of Orlando, FL, and Melissa D. Ambrose (Nathan) of Hedgesville, WV; five grandchildren, Dustin Burdette and Maddison, Bailey, Amelia and Abigail Ambrose; one sister, Teresa Huff (Phil) of Bunker Hill, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert F. Burdette and his daughter-in-law, Ariel Burdette.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 1, 2024 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Pastor Don Carpenter officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Wednesday evening, in the funeral home.
