William Rodgers

1948 - 2024

William "Bill" James Rodgers, Age 75, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2024 at his home. Bill was born on November 24, 1948 in Frederick, Maryland, the son of the late Clarence Rodgers and Lillian Barrick and was the husband of Iris Rodgers.

William was a graduate of Emmitsburg High School in 1966 where he won awards for Outstanding Achievement for Track & Field and was known as Crazy Legs.

He joined the Marine Corps in 1969, achieving the rank of Corporal before he left active service in 1971. After this he became a meat cutter and quickly moved up the ranks, working as an Assistant Meat Manager at the ACME Market, at the George's in Woodsboro and the Giant in Hanover and Gettysburg until he retired.

Bill loved playing organized football for the Carroll County Chargers and the Frederick Falcons, as well as watching the Ravens and the Orioles on TV. He was a lover of the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisher. Bill was also a supporter of his local VFW in Harney, MD, Post # 6918 where he served on the Honor Guard.

He is survived by his wife Iris Rodgers, as well as his daughter Kristina Rodgers, step-children Crystal Spence and Josh Keller. He is further survived by step-grandchildren Deontae Spence and George Keller, and Step great grandson Jeremias Spence. Bill is survived by his sister Alice Rhodes and former spouses, Ellen Lousender Rodgers (Ridinger) and Glena Genadet Marshal. He was predeceased by his son James Rodgers.

The family will receive friends at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home at 210 W. Main Street, Emmitsburg, MD 21727 on Monday, August 5 from 2-4 and 6-8. Services will be held Tuesday, August 6 at 11 am at the Myers-Durboraw Emmitsburg location with burial at Tom's Creek Community Cemetery to follow.
