Alvin "Al" Paytes

Alvin "Al" Paytes, 78, of Spotsylvania passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at his home.

Al was a lifelong native of Spotsylvania County. He served in the United States Army from 1961-1971 and did two tours in Vietnam. He worked for Southland/Mclane for 30 years where he cultivated many lifelong friendships. Al was loved by all and will be remembered for his smile and contagious laughter. He had a special bond with his granddaughter, Amber, who he affectionately referred to as "Pawpaw's Precious". He was an incredible father and husband and devoted his life to his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Patricia; three children Theresa Paytes, Gary Paytes (Becky) of Spotsylvania, and Lisa Rausch (Bill) of Lovingston; four grandchildren Amber Paytes O'Brien, Steven Blair (Brittany), Thomas Blair, and Matt Blair; three great-grandchildren Sadie O'Brien, Daniel and Jonathan Blair; one brother James Paytes; and three sisters Betty Scott, Dottie Lumpkin and Joyce Oliver.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at noon on Friday, April 9, 2021 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Stafford Memorial Park.
